i think yahoo only gives impotance in its directory. it does not look the other sites. it's a stupid decision for yahoo but yahoo does this.

To Yahoo, it's the amount of texts links that matters the most. (Also the age of the domain, title tags, ect)

amount of texts links

I got tons of linkbacks but I'm in 100th position, although I'm #1 on google on a certain keyword.

What I noticed, yahoo seems not to like a sudden burst of linkbacks. It shoots me up to 100th place like a slingshot :( even I have 16,000 links on siteexplorer. Crap.

I agree, text links. I have seen slingshot effect too... it always seemed to recover with the next update.

I'm not sure I agree - my site appears #1 of Yahoo (UK) for a certain common keyphrase, and I'm not in the directory anywhere.

Cryo.

Yeah I remember reading that in a few places. I would love to get top ranking on a decent keyword for yahoo, but the long tail words are better for my sales. It's amusing to see some of the long tail keywords that people search for and even more entertaining that they found me.

search engines in other countries are much easier to dominate than their US counterparts. Try ranking in Canada Google, it's a piece of cake!

I get the Inktomi bot (yahoo's) hitting my site twice as many times as Google bot.

Yahoo mainly needs back links to get good rankings .. just do a lot of directory submission and link exchange.
