does sending press releases get you good backlinks?
i have tried this myself for launching new website or product through prweb and other news sites and found press releases not just getting exposure from media but also gets some backlinks from news sites. Most news sites are of high PR which i observed.
does this help ranking in google? please post your views.
P.S: I have my own PR distribution site (http://www.prurgent.com) and those interested are welcome to post press releases.

I agree PR could get you some very nice exposure and also some nice quality backlinks :) The more news worthy the PR the better results ;)

You have press releases from big corporations like Bank of America, they didn't actually submit those, did they?

I was looking at your prurgent.com website for couple of days now and what I find fascinating is simplicity of the design which throws me off my chair every time I visit. Ok offtopic hehe I just wanted to tell you that it inspired me with this design ;) http://www.internetmojster.com/blog/
As for PR services guess they are worth the money ... either free or paid :D

I wouldn't overdo the use or links or url's in your press releases though.
PRweb allows you to include links in your press releases if you pay a bit more - but it might reduce the quality of your press release if you're not too careful.

I'm convinced that old fashioned media work wonders in getting links to your site, especially if the old media is online as well. So yes, press releases should work well - especially if you have something newsworthy to announce.
