Hi all DP members,
I've a question, Which one is the most important for PR increament? Quality or Quantity????
If Quality, then how would some one select the best one?
If Quantity, then which is the best way to follow?
Thanks

Quality is better, but to be honest quality is usually very difficult to get. I try to get a combination of quality and quantity. It has worked well for some large sites I have worked on in the past. Of course, don't just focus on links. Content, titles, on-site link structure, and other factors are also very important. I have ranked well for long tail terms many times with only a good title and content.

I have said it before and I will say it again.
I would rather have 10 PR7 links than 1000 PR5 links. This pretty much says it all.

I agree. Go for quality. Relevant and high PR if possible. But take relevance over pr and you'll still be okay. Quantity is okay for punching up terms once your site builds a bit of momentum.

Quality is better
Wrong.

I'd rather have 1000 PR5's. That says it all. 1. You can spread more anchor text and 2. there's a far bigger chance you get a dozen or so PR6es out of it than PR7's becoming PR8's. In fact it's probably more likely that a few PR7's become 6es than not getting 100 PR6es out of the 1000 PR5s.
I agree. Go for quality.
Why?!!! Quality AFAIK has absolutely nothing to do with PR. For a site about dogs to get a high PR it doesn't matter whether you buy 10 PR8 links from sites about cats, dogs or knitting. For ranking it does, for PR it's a pile of bollocks suggesting quality matters. And why don't you guys back up what you are saying with some arguments. It's just plain bad stating something without any from of motivation or attempt at making it fact instead of opinion.

I understand your thinking here Tops. But what's the point of having a dozen or so PR6's in the hope that they do become PR6's when you already have 10 PR7's. Does it really matter if they don't become PR8? As long as many of them maintain PR7 then your site will be better off (in PR only).
Unless I am missing your point??  I thought the point was about PR and not traffic and leads??

Yes, the point in this thread was pure PR so my statement about anchor text is just a side bonus. Technically, based on PR transfer only, you may well be better off with 10 PR7s right now, short-medium term. I just don't agree with 'blindly' taking 10 PR7's any day over 1000 PR5s. But granted, PR-wise you will probably get the upper hand faster.

It depends on how you are going to get the links.
Natural links you would want the 1000 pr 5 links.
If you are paying for it I would go for the 10 pr 7 links.

I think both are important ,you should take a balanced approach when decidiing to but the links
It all depends upon your site and your PR
suppose your site has PR5 ranking means to get PR7 or PR6 in next update you need links in more quantity rather than in quality

You should have a nice mix of both quantity and quality. What you dont want is bad backlink to your site. peace

Bad backlinks to your site such as links from bad neighbourhoods shouldn't cause you too much problems as long as you don't link from your own website to any of these. This is because anybody could attempt to pull down a competing website by submitting their website to a 'bad neighbourhood' link directory.

quality means links related to your website, quantity means looking only at PR

Did you actually read the question?
Do you even know how PR works?

Quality is always desired, but it isn't always possible.
The number of OBL's must be seen when you buy a link for PR.
A PR 4 with a couple of outbounds only ( I know that won't be possible ;) ) is better than a PR 5 with say 50+.
Links from authority sites are highly valued too.
A mix of the two is generally what people choose.

Well my thoughts are...
Quality links will mean high PR...
buy Quantity links does mean high number of hits...
Isn't this true

You, and many other, have it completely wrong.
Like the lIverpool dude says, PR is only determined by quantity and the PR of the links. Nothing to do with quality of the website, anchor text or landing page. Absolutely nothing.

So relevance pertains to your rankings and is not that important for PR? Learn something new everyday.

Do you have some evidence that relevance doesn't affect PR? I'm not sure either way. I think it would make sense.

Why don't you post some evidence PR is based on relevance and so called quality?
How many links does Google have from other search engines like Yahoo and MSN to get their PR10? How many links does Adobe have from other publishing tool websites to get their PR10? How many links does NASA have from other space agencies like the Russian Programme to get their PR10? How many links does Digital Point Forums have from other webmaster forums to deserve its PR8? Etc.

I don't post any evidence because I don't have any and nor did I claim to. NASA may not have links from other "space agencies" but it has a lot of links from sites containing similar content. The same is true for the rest of the sites. I wasn't suggesting anything, just looking for more information. No need to get so defensive.

Hey T0PS3O, I just found out the hard way. Yeah you're right with your
quantity example, however for smaller sites there is NOTHING as important
as relevance and "quality". Proove for me was to link from a pr6 page to
a new site. The new site wasn't exactly top relevant AND would have possibly raised a few 'quality concerns' because of the number of outgoing links....
Result? Downgraded to pr4. Never happened before in 5 years. It's a top consistent pr6 site, no exceptions. For incoming links the same applies, and I won't do it again. I promise. I will repeat it now 115 times as a gesture of good will: Relevance and Quality. Relevance and Quality. Relevance and Quality.....
