I have a fairly new website that has 273 total pages that has been up since Dec 2004.

Here are my Yahoo details:

17 pages indexed
34,500 backlinks
No where in the top 500 SERP's for my competitive keywords. I haven't even been able to find my site for non-competitive terms.

Ranking in the 40-60 range in Google for the same very competitive terms
Backlink count: 2340
All pages indexed
Ranking in the 10-30 range in MSN for the same very competitive terms
backlink count:50,040
259 pages indexed

I just can't figure out why I am not there? I was listed in Yahoo 3 months ago, but since then I am in a Yahoo blackhole it seems. Slurp is visiting and crawling my site daily.

I could really use some expert advice on this one.

My site is indexed. That's not the problem. I just can't figure out why it is not ranking well. I have thousands of BL's and I am ranking well in MSN and decent in Google. I am just not ranking well in Yahoo.

I have the opposite problem, great ranking in MSN, so so in yahoo and absolutely none in google even though I am more optimized for that site than the other two.

I don't think I will ever figure this SEO stuff out.

Same here. I ranked well on Yahoo when I first put this site online. Some of the keyords were firstpage. Lasted about a month. Yahoo did a big update and next hing I knew I was in the cellar. I just can't figure out what Yahoo wants. It's like everytime I think I figure it out, Y! changes the questions.

Continue working on your linking stategy. As you continue to get good links back to your site yahoo will push up you listing. Try to get links on trusted sites. This will definitly push up your listings.

Hello ,
Sorry for the delay . I wanted to know something , Where are you right now ? Both in yahoo and msn .
Also tell me one thing , do you really think that simply getting in a search engine and ranking High is enough ? It appeared to me when I went to your site . My site is on number one in msn and 9 in yahoo for my target keywords But is that all enough .

In an attempt to rank higher , you have compromised on the content quality . I sincerely suggest that you target your homepage for one or two keywords only . I don't know how many you have tried there .
It would be much better , if you make three pages instead of just one HomePage .
Like auto insurance on Home and others on another page .
Choose carefully .Do this . Search yahoo for the keywords individually .
Note down the TOTAL number of pages found by yahoo for each keyword. 56 million , 42 million ...
Whichever is less , go for that Now . Once you are on first page , then let me know again . Then we will start on with What YOU want . This is only for the home page . Do not do this for internal pages .

Again don't do what you have done right now . This is not Optimisation . Middle page is fine But the first time I visited your page , I didn't go that much . TOP is most important . And you know what you have done there . When you see my results , you will see that I have added India in keywords . This is because I am India and plus It was less competitive . Now I am working on major keywords.
This is how you should do it . Don't try shooting a tiger when you HOLD a gun First Time .
Let me know if you face any problems .
Bye
sorry if I said something hurting.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post. And I will take your comments under advisement. But, with that said, I don't feel I am on the wrong track. There are many sites in the keywords I was targeting that their homepage is listed in the top 20 for all those keyterms. And I do have individual pages for each product with outside links pointing to them.

I have many top 10 keyterms in MSN and I was at one time in the top 20 in Yahoo. I had the same setup then as I do now (I have just reorganized the code for better optimization). I also am ranking strong in Google for a new site (main terms in top 100, other terms in top 20, some even top 5) .

Sorry , I think I mis communicated . I never said that you are wrong . What I meant was Optimising the HomePage for only one or two keywords instead of many . I had a look at your site and saw the Individual pages . I know that you have those pages .
What I meant was concentrating on a page with One/two words . When you have those pages , then using those words once or twice and with a link pointing towards from HomePage should do the trick .
Again , I never said that you are Wrong . Many sites do the same . But do not loose readability for optimisation .
