Ok, another newbie question for the Pro's :o
I've been seeing Alexa ranking being discussed, and I've tried checking my sites alexa ranking more than once, but I really don't understand it fully... If you have an alexa ranking 2,120,575, is it good, and what does it really mean, is having a big amount good or bad???
Thanks in advance:)

Kisig 2,120,575 ranking means you have to work a lot to improve your ranking, you have to link your site to good alexa ranking sites, alexa ranking decides on traffic and websites links to your site.

target for a ranking below 100,000 - the lower the better.
a ranking of 2 million+ is not good... but everyone has to start somewhere. ;)

:( That's what I'm afraid of, I've been working a lot (around 3 hrs./day) to get the site out as much as possible (for two months now), I guess I have to add another hour or two then:(
Anyway, thanks man, BTW, what does that number really stands for (I mean the Alexa Ranking)?
Thanks:)

the bigger the number the worse, the number is basically a ranking based on traffic therefore higher is better.

Yep, lower ranking is better - but do be aware that there is some debate (usually heated!) on just how accurate Alexa data is. IMHO it usually provides a relatively good indication of the overall reach of the site, but I have had sites which draw a great deal more quality traffic than Alexa would have you believe.
I could be wrong, but I believe it generally gets more accurate the further up the ranking you get also.

Adding more hours wont help you, but you have to give your quality work, on internet quality matters not quantity.

Hi kisig. Alexa ranking is a value between 1 and 5,000,000 (5 million). The closer the figure is to 1, the more popular your site is. For example, Yahoo has an Alexa of 1, MSN Alexa is 2, and Google has an Alexa rank of 3. The value is based on the values from Alexa toolbar collected from all over the world. If you have Alexa toolbar installed on your PC, and you browse websites, you'll send a hit to Alexa for that site while browsing. So Alexa compiles these hits from all the Alexa users all over, and gives you these alexa results.
If you want to improve your Alexa, you should install the Alexa bar and regularly visit your site. Even that helps in improving it. Also, the more users come to your site, and they have Alexa toolbar installed, they'll also help improve your Alexa Rank.
Many webmasters dont give any importance at all to Alexa rank. Others feel its important. So it all depends on you. I sometimes have to give importance to Alexa rank because my clients just go crazy for a 'good Alexa' ranking. :o

I'm not sure what exactly Alexa has to do with AdSense but anyway
Alexa is just something to start with when investigating other sites
For your site it doesn't matter as you already have the UVs PVs and so one which are quite more accurate

I know that better Alexa rank will increase the page strength/page rank. But instead of looking for some clue about alexa ranks, better optimizing my sites which will improve my alexa rank.

2,120,575 means you gotta install the toolbar, make your site your home page, and visit it alot. ;)

:) Thank you guys, I'm sorry if I posted it here, I have now a better picture of what it is and how it works. And since I'm running adsense on my site, I thought I could ask it here, to see any relation on how to improve my sites ranking (PR things and stuff:o ).

I dont think better Alexa rank can improve page rank. Thats completely absurd. A good Alexa rank can help your site show its authority over the net, and to other users, but it doesnt affect the Google page rank in any way.

alexa gives some idea, but it is not reliable
the toolbar is only available for explorer if I am not wrong... so I guess most people just install it and reload their own site over and over
is there any mechanism that prevents that?

Exactly.
I know websites with 10.000 Alexa that have 1000 real unique visitors / day.
And I know websites with 90.000 Alexa that have 15.000 real unique visitors / day.
If you have a webmaster community, where most of the users are technical and use all sorts of Alexa plugins for their browser, then you will have a much higher Alexa rank, with much lower traffic.

You have to work a lot to improve your ranking and to link your site more.
Good luck!
