Here is the email I found well written and ended up trading links them. I've edited it as if you were sending it to someone:

Hello (their name)

My name is (your name) and I'm the webmaster of (ww*w.yoursite.com). Hopefully I've sent this message to the right person. I'm not totally certain I have, but if not, I'd be really grateful if you could forward this to the right person :-)

I'm writing to you today because I recently browsed your website at (their site) looking precisely for websites like yours to trade reciprocal links with. I believe your website will be of benefit to our visitors and I think our site might benefit your vistors too. Therefore, I'd like to link with you for mutual business growth.

I believe your website is a great match for our (Great Lifestyle Resources ||| change to suit) and I've already added your website's listing to my (category name) category and you can easily find it on this page:

(ht*tp://ww*w.yoursite.com/page-with-their-link.html)

Developing reciprocal links with sites of excellence is an important part of our business model. (I'd really like your website to be at the top of its category, designated as a preferred partner by our pearl icon. ||| change to suit)

On your part, all you need to do is give (your site name) a link on your website. It's really simple to link to our website by using our ready-to-paste code you can find here:

(ht*tp://ww*w.site.com/linking-instructions.html)

When you've added our link to your website, please send me a short email to let me know where I can find our link on your website and I will (move your website to the top of its category. ||| edit to suit)

I believe we will both benefit enormously from trading links and I look forward to your positive response.

Kind regards,

I'm not much into the recip link thing, but it is definitely a very well crafted letter.

The link was worth it, but neither am I usually.

i got the same email asking to trade my teen site links with an adult porn site saying they are the same content and worth a trade.

The letter sounds too 'staged'...

more effective to personalize it more and put some passion in there... personalization..

My take: just be honest... no need to be so verbose about it. A short compliment to show you've read their site and appreciate its content (otherwise why would you want a link from it?). A concise request. Personally I find that a lot more attractive. One thing I can't stand is sites with nothing but news collected from other news sites pretending to be 'corporations' with 'CEOs'. Don't overstate yourself...

A short compliment to show you've read their site ...

That´s the ticket! A reference that actually includes something that is relevant proving that the emailer has bothered visiting my site. Otherwise ... bin it.

Well, I haven't thought about that. But it should make a difference. thanks for the tip. It should make me more successful in trading links:)

Dare anyone...

Hi,

Noticed you are ranked in the top 10 for a search on the phrase I'm chasing. Notice also that your resource page has a very decent PageRank. Link to my site please, it would help my business so much, but probably not yours as I can only offer a link from this page..

Truthfully,

I agree personalization really sells the email. Alot of the good reciprocal links I have recieved have come from me complimenting the site because I enjoyed the content, explaining my site and myself a bit, and asking for a review on my site if possible. Most of the time not only did I get the reciprocal link but great tips to improve my site.

I agree with the short concise email that is personalized. I don’t want to read through a long wordy email stating my virtues and how I’m the savior of mankind. I don’t have time to read how our crystals are in perfect alignment for linking and we have perfect synergy, blah blah blah.

I, also, don’t like the used car salesman approach “what will it take to get you in this comfy family website today?”

Short.

I would straight off delete this email. No one likes to read long emails especially with the link exchange emails. Just add a grabber line at starting and thats it...rest of the information should be your website details etc

A well crafted letter , no doubt . But webmasters tend to get impatient with long letters from what i have seen. In my case it works with a short letter which is straightaway to the point !

I got a pretty generic request yesterday, but it was the last line that stopped me from deleting it. "Your link will be placed on our PR6 site" or something to that effect. Of course, where they place the link probably won't be ranked so highly, but I'll definitely check it out and see if it makes sense.

Quite a few of the directories in our recip dir are ranked well as well, and that's always been a good draw for people.
