I just opened Dir23 (http://www.dir23.com/) to list Google Custom Searches. Both regular and reciprocal links are free.

Basically you create a custom Google search engine by going to Google (http://www.google.com/coop/cse/overview) and create one for free, but entering a list of urls that your engine will search.

This definitely cuts out spam and by building a very topical search engine, you can draw lots of traffic from people tired of spam and searching forever for specific information.

The bonus: you can link this to your adsense account and get commission from actual search result clicks instead of content type ads.

I am sure this is where the money is to be made from Adsense ads in the near future.

I want to make Dir23 a hub for such sites. I am using a generic script for the site right now, but will rewrite it for more features probably within a year or so.

I noticed you're using one of my free templates. Why did you remove the footer links to the designer and sponsor?

Please reinclude all the footer links or else remove the template completely.

May I suggest "regional" ?

The template is in the process of removal and has already been modified to the point of being a whole other template altogether. I don't like using other's templates anyway. Kind of tacky.

Just added a regional category and removed about 60 submissions that weren't Google Custom Searches.

Interesting concept.

I only see colors change so I wouldn’t call it a different template.

Look now. Total difference.

:) Sorry I still find that you only changed the images, I don’t classify it as sufficiently original, for link removal.

As you will quickly learn in the directory sector using a custom designed template is in fact the smartest bit of business you could possibly do

I can assure you there is nothing 'Kind of tacky' with using a template with the designers link in the footer

Get a reality check, business is business and if your intentions are to make serious money then start partnering with some serious people :)

cocomo,

I never submit to directories where an author's work has been stolen or used without permission.

Has this issue been resolved to your satisfaction?

Thanks.

Now the links are back.

Please note: the argument was about Black Motion from here (http://www.emillie.net/blog/).

This site no longer resembles the original. Why would this link back be valid? But it's there.
