I welcome anyone and everyone to look at my site http://www.dvdwebzone.com
I would appreciate any of the experienced seo guys to look at this as I am kinda new to seo. Please tell me is the design and omptimization that bad or am I just in the sandbox. Google currently indexes 61 pages and I am working on more but other than the sandbox is there a reason why this site would not appear in the top 1000 results for terms online dvd rental, compare online dvd rental, video game rental etc. Some of these terms do fairly well in msn and yahoo.

I do :o

I don't overly love it. No offense, As I am no expert in this reviewing malarky.

I would say it is the website world equivelant of the shopping world's Pound Stretcher.

Too much writing. Not enough images. It's too white and bland and nothing catches my eye when I first see your website. Try and make it prettier looking. I know content is important, but image and first impressions is also 50% of how your website is rated.

There is just too much info squeezed in. I don't know if this is just because it looks untidy and the font is rather large and overpowering. But I would, being a lazy arse bum bum, take one look and then click my little [x].

God I wish I knew how to design coz I have a proper creative mind and many idea's but I dunno how the hell to do it.

Anyway, props to you for even having a site. Which is more than i've achieved. :o

I think you are suffering from seo tunnel vision and your site might as well be over optimized. For crying out loud, focus on creating something that appeals to people and then worry about seo :)

If you are really, really serious about attracting paying customers, compare your site to the design at http://www.netflix.com/

These days, it takes a 'gotcha' site, one which jumps-out at the viewer, conveying a sense of professionalism.

I tend not to be overly critical, as I understand it's your baby.

I'd have to agree that cosmetically it doesn't catch my eye... However, I do like the Blue colors in the google ads on the bottom of the main page. You might want to think about adapting that color scheme to your entire site.

I think with a little refinement you can have a site that is well optimized and has enough pop to get people to stay and enjoy it. Let us know if you do update it.

Agreed. You can optimize and appeal at the same time. But the way it looks right now reminds me to the countless mlm/ "money making e-book" pages out there.

Way too much text.. In a DVDshop I just want to see the covers of the movies and click on them.
The pages are also too long, don't want to scroll all the way down.. And I need a search function to find my favourite movies!

You have the standard hyperlink blue all over your page. That's the first thing that pops into my eyes. I would be more considerate on font choice, color, alignment, and size. Basically, your typography needs more work. Not fully resolved yet.

Then it's your logo. Man, it looks bad. Sorry, please don't take it personally, but your logo has much room for improvement.

Ther is no navigation whatsoever on your page. I have no idea where to start. No one is going to read through all the text you put there and try to figure out what's going on... they are more likely to just move on to other sites.

And yes, I do think you should get the site done right first before you worry about google, PR, blah-blah and all. Your site seems to offer a great service, but your page looks like something everyone can do in Microsoft Word in 3 minutes. :p

I agree with all of the comments. Take away some of the content and reformat what you have left in way that's easier to look at and read.

I'd move the comparison chart to another page and use it on a page just by itself.

I'm not a big fan of the blue and white or the bottom menus.

The good news is that you have your site up and you are willing to work on it. I hope those comments help.

I appreciate all the comments, keep em coming. But no-one likes the blue and white? www.google.com Lol, Really I am considering all of these comments for future changes.

Navigation, font size, logo, are all factors you need to look into.

Alot of us don't like scrolling and scrolling oh and scrolling.. so think about making the navigation of the site as one of your priorities. If you want a recommendation for someone who is great at logo design let me know.

In general I like the page that Soap came up with. Possibly expand the chart so you wouldn't have to scroll so far and could compare more services on one page.

Made a few changes, I know it still needs work. www.dvdwebzone.com Didn't realize how bad it looked in IE I designed in firefox. I'm going to play with the nav bar border some more and try yo come up with a better logo. So Am I going in the right direction? :)

1. This took a really long time to load. I don't know what that does to SEO, but if puts off human visitors.

2. The navigation buttons at the top will help your visitors.

3. I don't see any text above the fold, only a colum on the right.

4. Human eyes will want some white space at the left margin. Rest for eyes is important on a Web page.

5. Can you wrap the text around the graphic of the mail truck and the other graphic lower down?

I hope these commetns are helpful.

If you comment on this thread please give your browser and screen resolution or a screenshot would be nice. I know the html is a mess. The text does wrap images for me in IE and firefox.

I'm using IE 5.2

Not sure what the resolution is.

I'm new here. If I don't know my resolution does that mean I shouldn't post?

The layout isn't bad, but I'd work on something a little less chaotic. And SEO optimize it. Other than that looks pretty good, lots of content - which is the important part.

Put yourself in the shoes of the average web surfer who does not know what seo means. What will he/she think about the site? (and how likely will they be to buy something from it)
