Not bad Web. I usually don't like stock photos of people but that one brightens it up nicely. I don't really know anything about the subject matter so is it more about a lifestyle or the music.
There isn't a lot to indicate its a music forum but again I'm not sure if thats even what you want.
Nice and clean design though, just get those categories filled with posts ;)

I really like how well-categorized the sections are. Great topics. I was going to say add something more to the just chat category but cannot really think of a topic off the top of my head

Nice looking site mate - not hard on the eyes and easy to find what you are looking for ( often a problem with heavy hacked forums )
But " and your not going to like me " you have way to many cats for a new forum . I do understand you are working on the forum but when it goes live it will look completely emtpy and you might find it hard to get guests to reg or post as no one posts on empty forums
I did the same as you on my forum and as soon as I got ride of all the cats.. and posted like hell then it began to grow
With the cats.. just add them when the demand is there
good luck and post like hell ( oops maybe should use another word than hell  )

The top right poeple don't render well in FF. The images causes a horizontal scroll.
I don't like the blue and green combo.
WAAAAY too many categories IMO. Cut it down to the main cats only. Music, Musicians, Debates, delete Regional until there's a need, Society, Paryers & Just Chat. No sub-cats IMO until a need develops. As said before, nothing worse than empty forums. Now they have to scroll past a whopping 33 empty ones prior to choosing hwere to post. Keep it simple first.
