I've been racking my brains (didn't take long), and being the least creative person I know, I haven't thought of any good link bait ideas.

Do you have any good ideas for link bait that you would care to share?

If so, please do.

To which site are you trying to get links pointing?

Easy: put something on your site that no one else has that is either insightful, controversial, or extremely useful. The topic doesn't matter. Never does.

either political or controversial often works, but the advice above to create a tool of value is best

I do alot of programming, but not very much in the way of tools. Do you have a URL where I should go to get started learning?

Every site has a possibity of good link-bait though it would vary depending on the niche one is in. what kind of site you have would decide what type of linkbait fits in :)

Really? In my experience, done well link baiting is the most cost (and time) effective and natural way of building links.

Create something that's fun, or inspiring, or very useful. A summary of the conclusions on some essential topic in your niche, for instance. Or a joke about the same.

Create good content and use Digg. If your content provides value you will get backlinks.

Create good content and use Digg. If your content provides value you will get backlinks.

Digg only works on certain topics (or if you're very lucky). Stumbleupon works on more topics, I think: certainly works better for my site. Stumbleupon was the highest referer to my website, other than search-engines, this week.

Providing a good resource site, with stuff that's interesting will get you backlinks - and sometimes you will create something that to your surprise is link-bait. It's really, like all material you put up on your site, a matter of trial and error. But while you are trying, your website is growing and therefore as a whole getting more interesting for visitors.

Link bait? But there are better ways to get links!

I'm already using a link exchange program, but I want to get more one way links. :D

Could you give me a few tips on other ways (ways that are better than link bait)?
