I've read places and articles saying google is now or will be... not placing "that" much of importance with sites who have a huge link exchange
Is this true?

I, for one, hope so. I don't even mind SE spamming as much as I mind the countless useless directories and link farms.

Definitely devalued in google. I see it still working a little bit in the other major search engines tho.

Its because Matt told in his blog that a good backlinks are links that are not made from out of the blue link exchange letters. He's trying to say that focus on your content to have a good one way backlinks.

Finding a linkexchange takes a lot of time (time is money)
Nowadays there are a lot of palces where links can be bought for less

reciprocal link exchange doesn't count as one way links in eyes of google.

the links from places that do link-exchange are usually not the type of link that will matter much - and linking back to them will only bring your website down with it.

No link exchange is not dead
I had a co.nr site and I exchanged link with some top level domain sites
and now it has a page rank of 1
It is amazing since I got only one page indexed by Google and also My search engine ranking is 29 for one page
this is because PR
since I dropped out of the Google's ranking before few months

I hope it is dead. I know some sites that are still building up reciprocal links and showing up in top results.
