I'm starting to think that spending time optimising for MSN is a waste of time.

The traffic I want is b-to-b, and I find MSN traffic to be far inferior to Google (separate from the lower volume). Seems like less sophisticated searchers, in general, which I'm sure is fine for those in the consumer-related world.

That's right. Most of my sites are B2B so MSN just isn't as important as say Google.
