I have installed LinkMachine and started to try it. More than I need though, almost like a directory.
I am looking for a simple link page that will check for backlinks. Any ideas?

Agree, RM is a great product but I've had massive problems with the support. It also doesn't run on all servers, I know he mentions on the site that it doesn't run on Windows servers, but it failed to run on an Apache server that I had some sites on. I was told RM4 would and would be availble within a couple of days - that was a couple of months ago!
Still worth a try though.

I used to install LinkMachine. It work pretty fine, having more features than I actually need. Didn't really fully utilize it. Still prefer a more simple stuff, which I am still searching...

Why using a software?
Is it better than doing it manualy?
If it's for your site then why give you site a little time.

It makes things a lot easier to manage specially with many sites :)

I manage several sites and I don't always have control over which programs are installed. I've used RM and LM, and I prefer Link Machine...I felt even the free version was better than RM.
My main beef with RM is that it takes so many clicks back and forth to get things done, especially if you're trying to edit stuff. I also had serious problems when using the reciprocal link check. In some cases it didn't catch sites that WEREN'T reciprocating, and sometimes would flag sites that WERE reciprocating. I ended up spending way too much time manually double checking listings.
Overall my top pick is WNS Links, but it's a bit over the top if you have minimal links to manage.

So what would people want in a link manager ??
It's something that I'm looking at, and haven't found anything that is suitable so it might end up being something I have to write myself.
If I do write it, it would be PHP based (probably). So a list of what people would want in a link manager would be useful.

Yea...I did a review on it, so there's lots of info here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=9752
There were several other scripts I tested, LMA being one of them as well, but I decided I just didn't want to have miscellaneous link ads on the bottom of my directory when I had not control over what was being shown (which is the same reason I don't use the DP coop either).
Out of probably ten different scripts I tested WSNlinks and Link Machine were the easiest to install.

I wish I would have found this sooner. I purchased and downloaded RM last night. The install and setup really wasn't that bad, (and I'm not scripts expert, either) but there is one customization that I'm stuck on and had no choice but to email their support. I guess I'll have to see how long it takes for a response (if I get one, I guess)
I haven't tried any of the email features yet and it sure would be nice if there was a users forum.
Oh well, I'll check out Links Machine. $67 for RM is still $67, but at least it's not $167

HI Patty,
Some people really like Recip Manager, so give it a try it might work fine for you. A RM users forum would be great...you should suggest that when replying to support. I did email them once and they replied within 48 hours I believe. Of course what I wanted to do (be able to manually put links on disable status without deleting) wasn't a feature RM offered. :(
You can always download the free version of Link Machine so you can compare the two and see which you like better.

Interesting thread. I am currently shopping for a good program as well. Here is what I want.
1. I want link exchange requests to be real, not something that is generic and I have no control over
2. backling monitoring. If I have 1,000 sites in a link exchange with me, I would like a legitimate program that can tell me quickly if my site is still linked on their site. I have had several casino sites set up linke exchanges with me, only to remove my link a month or so later.
3. Make it easy and quick to use. I almost hired one someone that was a member of the forums on my site to simply track down link exchange prospects and do all the link exchange work, for me. Link exchanging takes away alot of productive time when you do it manually.
4. Any extra "add on " features that help me out in terms of SEO would be great.
The one I am looking at right now is seoelite. I haven't seen much discussion of it on this site, but from the few that I know who used it, it seems to be working well for them. Any opinions on this software?

No need to install any of these softwares for link building. Do it manually. The major disadvantage of these softwares are regarding the "back link url" in case of One way link exchange. Smart people are putting the back link URL which is not owned by them. They just fetch it from Google and put it in that field. If you are not clear at my point plz ask me. I will clarify it more........

I'd be interested to see if there was anything also. I've been looking for a Joomla plugin but there doesn't seem to much around that comes close to what I'm looking for.
