i wanted to sell links on my site for SEO purposes

i presume a week long link would have little (if any) effect on the "linked-to" site

how long should the link be there?

3 months? 1 year?

I almost always try and buy (and sell) links for 6 month or 1 year. Unless you are promoting something seasonal or advertising for pure traffic I think the longer terms are more benificial.

If you are selling it for SEO purpose, sell it anywhere from 2 months to lifetime.

Don’t know how you will benefit from that in an SEO way. But if you are selling links and you want other to benefit anything from 3months to lifetime is good.

As jg123 said it also depends on the goal (short term vs. long term)

3 Months is hassle to me. By the time you can rely on the results it will be wiped or you have to spend time again to renew. Don't see the point of such short terms. It only adds hassle for both buyer and seller.

It'll benefit you from the time the link is piked up until the time it's noticed that it's gone. 3 months is hardly worth it though. I don't buy links for less than one year.

I was referreing to the target site - sorry I should have made that clearer.
I wont benefit you at all (apart from financially ;))

It all depends...
Sometimes you almost see results instantly and sometimes it can take a few months.
I would suggest keeping your links online for at least 90 days or so before you remove them
Worked always best for me
