A third of my website's traffic comes from Google and sometimes I get some traffic from Bing, but nothing from Yahoo? Why? Please help me understand this situation.

This is very unusual as I get most of my traffic from Google and Yahoo, and almost none from Bing.
Are you indexed with Yahoo? You can do a search on Yahoo search engine and see if your domain comes up.

I face the same problem. My site is indexed but it does not receive traffic from yahoo, however it receives 8000-1000 page requests from google's reference.

Hey guys thanks for all your answers:

@gordon08; @Snake Blisken: I've submitted my websites a bunch of times and I do appear for my domain name but still nothing.

@txf: My website is about 2 months old. How much more can I wait?

@tulip4heaven: I'm not on Yahoo's directory and I'm not willing to pay more than $100 to get a few visitors from them.

@adstiger: What do we do then?

@wildogre: Did you do anything different to get that traffic?

Yahoo can take some time and it may take a year or more before Yahoo ranks you. A lot depends upon your keywords and competition.

Yahoo has different algorithms than Google, just have to play around with it and find the best ways to rank! Good luck, SEO is tough!

Yahoo usually takes more time to index sites. Try submiting your site to yahoo directory

Most of the traffic comes from Google because Google has Big market share in search engines. Sometimes it is also possible that your keyword has very little searches at yahoo and only top website get benefit from it.

The reasons for very little traffic from Yahoo could be
a) Most Yahoo searchers are not finding your site within the first few slots.
b) You havent submitted sitemap to Yahoo so you are not indexed. (Yahoo can give you indexing even if you didnt submit sitemap)

I used to get traffic from all three and it is as follows;
google ; 157
bing ; 22
yahoo ; 9
why that much difference is there I don't understand.

I will take some time even if you submit a sitemap. Check how your site is doing in "Yahoo Site Explorer" tool.

Have you successfully submitted your site to Yahoo. Check to see if the crawlers didn't get any errors when they visited your website.

Improve your keywords and site description so you can easily get crawled so the traffic goes in.

tulip4heaven: I thought so as well, yahoo directory will boost my ranking on yahoo but the funny thing was that I went from page 3 to page 9 after submission, one month on they moved me to page 8, so much help for $300.
khalid2167: my stats are even worse as this month I got about 1,000 from google and about 20 from yahoo.
I don't know what to do for yahoo as I want to rank there (20%+ audience is not nothing) but I'm unwilling to make many changes as I might lose my rankings on google.

Thanks for all your tips. I guess that adding the sitemap to Yahoo is the way to go but I need to wait a few days for them to crawl it.

You don't pay Yahoo to get into their directory.
What you post doesn't matter to them.... :(

Your site is just 2 months old and yahoo takes more time to index a site. Give them some time. At the mean time, work hard on SEO and you will be rewarded.

You site are either not present in the yahoo database or they are not ranked well. What works with one search engine may not work with the other so if afterall you 're indexed in yahoo check to see what you 're doing wrong with them that they refuse to send you traffic.

yup....but then the traffic you get from yahoo is usually specific to a certain set/age/character of person.....maybe your sites are just not oriented towards the average yahoo user....who is usually more community ethnic oriented than the mainstream latest news.. google everybody...
