I am almost positive that Yahoo answers used to be a live link in the source box.
Now, the links are not live and the person has to copy and paste.
Is this a "new and improved" feature?

Well that way people will not have as much incentive to spam Answers, I have never used it for legitimate purposes before. There are better ways to get traffic anyway.

Yeah it's no more a live link for Level 1 users.. I don't know about Level two if they could post live
links on the source box.
That is one way to prevent Spam answers..

The Yahoo Answers links could be very great in terms of traffic but may not bring magical results when you take a look at them from SEO perspectives.

The thing about Yahoo Answers is, if you add a link or mention a website in any formation you'll wind up getting suspended and then possibly even an IP Block :/

It's just to stop spam. If you want to use Yahoo! Answers to target traffic, then answer questions until you reach Level 2. It's well worth it depending on your niche.

The good thing about Yahoo Answers is just that it is targeted traffic. You know that they want your site because they are asking about the products you have answers to. Also, Yahoo Answers is Gold with Google. Anytime you Google a question the top ones are Yahoo Answers, so you can get a lot more visitors than just the one with the question.

yes it's a new rule of yahoo answers. now level 1 users can't post links. yahoo is not so friendly like google. that's why it can't beyond google even it's a older company

I have a level 7 account on Yahoo answers, and I'm able to post live links.
Being active on sites like yahoo answers, dose seem to increase the online authority of my business. But why limit it to yahoo answers? Dofollow forums is a far better route to increase online authority, since they pass on linkjuice at the same time. While the traffic quality of yahoo answers is both low-quality, and more short-term.
Automated spam on yahoo is also useless, since such just make your business look like a fraud. Its very easy to tell when someone is submitting automated spam, or copy/paste answers. Quality answers, will on the other hand, contribute to peoples authority impression of your business, and that goes for forums, as well as article submission sites.
Another thing to note, is that YA (last time i checked) dose allow us to post links to our own website, on a few conditions. And obviously you shouldn't just spam useless promotional messages, that will most likely just get you banned.
