I've heard the same, but you have to get in there quickly and answer high trafficked questions. Nowadays there are programs just for this.

Yes, I would say Yahoo Answers can.
That's what I am using in generating targeted traffic.
Cos you can select the specific field that you really wanted and then
provide them with a source...

I don't think they ban everyone who places a link in their answer.
If it's a good, unique and well-written answer, it's been my experience that it stays there, and brings a little traffic.

Ive made an account, did a search to find questions I could answer, I've placed only 3 answers, all on topic, unique , with link sending to one of my sites for a better on topic explanation. After 6 hours I've got banned.

Yahoo answers provides queries to your answers, it is not a place to sell / advertise any affiliate product. Its main purpose is to provide collaborative answers.

It is a good source of traffic but it is an overcrowded market, half the people using it are marketers trying to take advantage. I try to stay away from it myself, the last thing I need is to get sued by Yahoo for spam right as my business is starting to take off.

I bet it was same domain and you posted from same IP all answers, this is reason why you get banned. If you would post from 3 different IP and used 3 different links I think all will be OK you can even cloak your link with url shorteners

I used Yahoo answers one time to answer a question. Someone posted a question where is the best place to buy xxxxx. I replied with 3 links. One was eBay, another was Amazon and the 3rd was mine. I did not get banned because I used 2 big names and then my site... so it did not look like spam.
It brought good traffic but I don't feel like getting banned even though I never use it. So I probably won't ever use yahoo again for a long time, if ever again. I like to use Wiki

From yahoo answers official community guidelines:
Can I post my website, email, or personal information in my answers?
Last Updated: December 16, 2008
In certain circumstances you can. Common sense goes a long way here, but basically, you cannot spam, advertise, or solicit on Answers.
Personal websites or email
The preferred method is to provide the information on your profile page. However when it is directly related to the answer you’re giving, sometimes it is helpful to include personal links or an email address in the answer. For example, you’re the proud owner of a couple of cats and run an informational web site about caring for cats. You answer a question about cat grooming and include a link to a page on your web site with detailed information on the topic, as well as your personal email address for people to contact you with more questions. If you host sponsored ads on your site, be careful about posting links to your site in every answer or you risk crossing over into spam territory, which is not allowed.
If you post your personal web site (including your MySpace page) and email in every answer whether or not they’re related to your answers, you could be in violation for solicitation or spam.
Personal information
Please remember that Answers is a live site. Any personal information you post can be found by anyone on the Internet, so please use discretion. It’s OK to sign your answers with your name as long as you’re not violating another rule while you’re at it.
Business websites or email
There are many professionals and business owners providing valuable knowledge and experiences on Answers. By identifying yourself as such and providing great answers, you are building credibility and positive brand image. You may also provide your business URL and contact information on your profile page. However, please do not link to purchase pages in your answers, include your website and contact info in all answers, give low-quality answers coupled with links to your site, or solicit for clients. Do not answer questions directly related to purchases that can be made at your business (i.e. you own an electronics business and you answer a question asking where to buy iPods, or you’re a dentist answering questions about which dentist to go to), as this behaviour can be considered spam.

i'd suggest placing a link on your profile :) If someone likes your answers he/she might drop by your profile to see what else do you have, that could quite possibly lead to more traffic :)

Yes it can. cause the traffic is being targeted but I think Yahoo answers is somewhat
like so discouraging cos there's no more live links available to be posted by a Level one user.

Possible this is the problem, you cant place links if you are a level one member.

There are about 50 million people a week who to answer looking for something.
That probably answers what an opportunity to be in yahoo answers

Yes many do this. After Answering the Question they leave their Site URL in the End and Get free traffic because people think it might be useful.

Yes, yahoo answers are useful for web traffic but they should be relevant to the question and not to look like spam.

hi,
I have been thinkling about the idea of how to spend my own time increainf website traffic and have come back to the basic ideas of articles, forum posts, seo rather than Yahoo answers. It can be good traffic of course but I think i prefer to spend my time focusing efforts in other areas that I will not get banned from using anytime, (just my thoughts today)
dave
I do yahoo answers in my niche. I leave a link in the whats your source area. Not so many questions in my niche though. Maybe 1 or 2 a day, sometimes nothing. I do other more mainstream questions if I feel like it. I got 37% best answers.
I get traffic from answers, which is constant. Every day somebody is coming from there to my site. Highest for me was 10 unique visitors a day. But I guess it depends on the topic.

I am using Yahoo Answers for a while now, and I can tell you from first hand that is worth it.
But do not spam there. Try to be helpful with your answers and have link to your site just in "What's your source?" box.
I have 58% of best answers over there using same tactics. I strictly answer what is question about! I write several paragraph always about asked issue.
From my tracking info I see that I receive many, many visitors to my site from yahoo answers. But only from the posts that were chosen as best answer!

I spent about 1 hour posting answers on a niche subject and it did get me some extra traffic. I need to do it again. I even got a click from an answer i did months ago. The only issue is that you can be limited to a certain amount of answers a day until you build up your rep.

its easy to spot the spammers they tend to stick out. If you try to answer for a niche that you dont know much about make sure you research it before answering.

Make sure if/when you post a link, you post a free domain type thing (a cloaked aff link). NOT A URL SHORTENER AND NOT A HOPLINK OR OTHER UNCLOAKED LINK. Aff links will get you banned or disliked, and url shorteners look VERY suspicious when you are "recommending" a product.

I've had really good luck with Yahoo Answers as far as traffic goes. The conversions aren't always the best though because it isn't very targeted.

In my experience it does increase traffic, but it doesn't necessarily convert. Mainly because people will check out the resource, have a browse and then that'll be it - Yahoo Answers is more about a passing interest than a real determined desire to buy / sign up for something.
Traffic-wise though, it's useful.

I have used yahoo answer services here in DP. i have got around 10-15 visitors in total. For 30$ spent 15 visitors well that's a bit costly. maybe next time I will purchase PPC.

Its dependent on how well you answered the question if you get maximum ratio of votes it will obviously help you in getting good traffic. Try to answer questions relevant to your website.

True, yahoo answers generate good traffic but low conversion at least your affiliate is "free stuff", very less member will spend money

Be very careful with Yahoo! Answers. They love to kick people off. I have been kicked off several times, seemingly for no apparent reason. I try to post in a bunch of different categories and try to spread out the times in which I leave links, but still seem to get kicked off every few weeks.
The good news is that you can just create a free new account, and try again.
