Many people talk about it, but few of them say how's the effect to submit your sites to bookmark sites.

I use bookmark too, but when i check backlinks to my site via yahoo, only check few of them show up(digg is one of them), anyone knows why? most of them dont add your pr actually since many bookmark sites add "nofollow" in outbound links? even some dont do that, but will it be useful to add to bookmark after all, i want to figure it out. please give your opinions about it.

thanks

It depends on a few issues. If you want backlinks just for traffic, then social bookmarking will help you a great deal. If you want backlinks for SEO, then you should submit just to bookmarking sites with dofollow.

it's still hard to drive traffic via bookmark since English is not my native language to write some high quality articles, so usually i consider taking bookmarking as a way to improve pr. i did submit to bookmark sites without "nofollow", but didn't get them shown up as backlinks at yahoo backlinks checking results, even months later. then what's the reason? yahoo doesnt take them a backlink?

Bookmarking is making really good traffic. If you have new site first thing is social bookmarking.

Sites such as Digg and Stumble Upon allow you to create pages within their domain containing links to sites that are shared with peers. A bookmarks page on Digg could become viral and the content could be compelling enough that people link to you from their sites. It is can be very useful both for gaining backlinks and getting direct traffic, which, as has been discussed, stands a good chance of earning more backlinks as people link to you. SB is indeed helpful when come to traffic generation to our website/blog. It can generate massive traffic to your site/blog. However, this traffic is not targeted. They come fast and gone. Unless you really active in SB to maintain your traffic level. In term of qualify backlinks, yes, some of them are Do Follow sites and you can share some PR juice from them. The easiest way to determine whether or not the SB sites are Do Follow is to use the Google Seoquake plug in. It can help you to judge .If your site is good and has something unique, your backlinks could increase exponentially. But, it's not always easy to know what pages to bookmark and there's a knack to getting people to bookmark your content. It can be spammy and can look like an unattractive marketing ploy if you're not careful.
It's not guaranteed to work but some swear by it. If you're site's about paint drying it may not work for you. It can't hurt to try.

Yes, I have noticed that there are some bookmarks really drive traffic directly, most of them are counted as backlinks and few are not. However, Delicious is one of the site which drives traffic directly. I am getting it.......:)

It is quite useful for your traffic, but only short term. For something long term you need solid backlinks and good search engine exposure.

The most important thing to take into consideration is if the links in the bookmarks are do-follow. If they don't these sites can still be good for traffic generation but useless for backlinks. Unfortunately most of the popular sites provide no-follow links...

hey,

Well, I would say that many people just do social bookmarking for the heck of it. Just make a spam account and add a link with the desired anchor text. That's it!

But, Social Bookmarking actually means, creating a Social network with people, bookmarking their sites and making new friends all over the world.

What this does is create a network of networks with links of sites similar to the niche of your sites. The link juice from such pages will yield better results. Results like, better SERP, 100's of backlinks from one SB site and most of all targeted traffic.

Now, you would be wondering how can you get 100's of backlinks from the same SB site?

Answer is, when you create a good network, like say 100 people as your friend, naturally they all will book mark your site having the same anchor text etc. This is will give you excellent natural and quality links.

This is how Social networking is done. So, select a few good do-follow sites, say around 7-8, and start making friends and tagging them all.

This might take time, but the after effects are worth it.

hope this helps.

While I find social bookmarking sites useful for some fast backlinks and instant traffic, the backlinks are not very useful for SEO.
I'm sure that Google know how easy it is to abuse social bookmarking sites and get hundreds of backlinks by just spamming your site here and there.
Don't expect to rank high for any competitive keywords for doing social bookmarking spam.

The more trustworthy an account submitting the link to these social bookmark sites is, the higher up it is voted and better chances of atracting actual human visitors besides the obvious SEO benefits.

Therefore it is recommended to use an established manual submission service vs making a brand new account and adding your link.

Bookmarking is still a powerfull way to geat some easy and stready backlinks to your website. The thing is you just need to mix them up with other sources of backlinks like article submission, social networking etc..

I usually bookmark my website to get my pages ranked faster via Google, Yahoo and other search engines.

I do not rely on Social networks' traffic thou as they don't convert well as some people claim.

PROS: Pages are spidered faster, and you may experience a small boost in SERPS
CONS: Traffic from Social networks isnt very targetted, but still better than some rubbish traffic out there.

Woow, thanks you guys' comments very much!

I'd say something is getting more clearly now. say sorry to you all about my delay.

Yep, that's also my worries, wanna rank high in serps just via submitting to bookmarking sites? i don't think google agree that, either.

That will be true! i think better way you should go but not just bookmarking, like articles submission and press release, besides, currently i set up some blogs to promot my business, hope to make sense, and feel free to talk something about it.

Thanks Pro.seods, I would like to try acting as you said at some bookmarks sites.:)

Cheers, everyone!

Bookmarking can give you short duration traffic and new users can discover your blog from such sites . Websites like digg and rediit helps you to get indexed fast but they work for short duration only .

if you do it moderately it is helpful, also for every social bookmarking link try to get 5 other links

You can also get traffic from bookmarking but it is really tough for you to make it to the main page on Digg. or other websites. But at least you will Backlinks.
and btw, I thought that most of the social bookmarks are dofollow.

Does anyone have a good list of bookmarking sites that follow? Once on a site how can you tell if it is set to follow?

I do know what you mean. I do it only for the SERPs. I check my backlinks - and I as well, am not getting any dofollow SBM sites showing that they are linking back to me.
