well first submit your sitemap to yahoo

then just do some basic research search the keywords you want to rank good in and get the top 3 listings and see what they're doing right and what you're doing wrong. I also like to check their backlinks using a tool google one a backlink checker.

It's honestly just SEO sometimes you do good in google but bad in yahoo and vice versa.

Yes, it is the no 1 factor for yahoo. not sure how often they update , probably every 3 months?

You can't see all the backlinks in google, it's common knowledge. Yahoo shows more links than google but if you want to see all the links back link to your site make a google webmaster account

That's what everyone wants to know along with getting #1 on Google and Bing.
I have some good placements on Yahoo and it seems like title and description tags are important. Try using just your keywords in your title and you will see good results with Yahoo.
Also keywords in your URL help. Of course thousands of backlinks doesn't hurt.

I would also suggest doing a little bit article marketing - write some articles and submit them to free article submission services (do a manual submission, not automatic). Do not forget to mention a few keywords in your articles and put a link to your website in the article.

Submit your sitemap for one, but build as many links as you can. Yahoo counts and keeps track of the links better then Google (IMO) and they are not as strict about the relevance of the back links.

Y! likes keyword rich content. So, heavy use of your keywords will help considerably. The downside is that G may then lower your rank because your high keyword density starts to look spammy.

In my opinion yahoo and google most of search engines looks back links.
But you key word alignment plays a great role.

Create a good keyword combination (2-3 words), avoid only 1 word keyword cause you can't beat bigger sites popularity.

Why? 18% is still a hell of a lot of traffic... work on your Yahoo! ranking is a lot easier as there is a lot less competition :p

Just submitting ur site won't do anything, there are millions of sites in Yahoo database. Do rank #1 you need to do a lot of works. Try these steps:
- Write 100 articles and submit to 50 quality directories
- Write 100 press release
- Submit to directories (of ur niche)
- Write articles in wiki pages
- Post in forums
- Buy some PR6 backlinks
