Well I was contemplating paying up the $300 submission fee to get my MySpace resource site listed in the Yahoo directory, but I decided to try submitting for free and see what happens. Well I just checked my stats and I saw a few dozen hits from directory.yahoo - and sure enough there it is. I submitted less than a week ago.
I hope this new listing really gives a boost in traffic. What kind of traffic have those of you in the directory already gotten?

Traffic is fairly minimal in most cases, but it really depends on the category. The main benefit is that it should help you in search rankings - although yahoo currently gives a listing a lot less weight that it used to - supposedly because directory listings were dominating their natural search results.

That's great news.
Do you have any particular tips for other people that want to get accepted for free?

The myspace url in your profile isn't in the yahoo directory. Are you sure it wasn't an editor checking the site you submitted?

I did notice the editor visited my site a couple days ago too. But the link for my directory listing is this:
http://dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/Cultures_and_Groups/Cyberculture/Social_Networks/MySpace/

As far as tips I think it is pretty much luck, much like getting dmoz listed. My description was changed by the editor as well, so I consider it the luck of the draw. That and I run YPN on my site. I noticed most of the MySpace resource sites in the directory run YPN and not Adsense. Could mean nothing, could mean everything.

it was called expresswallets.com and i sold leather wallets from marshall wallets my pricing structure was low and i still could not compete with the bigger more established sellers i think it's a parked page now i dont own the domain anymore.

How did your know thar editor visited your site?
Is this link lifetime?
Will you have to submit again next year?
Thanks

I've had bad experience with yahoo, i've submitted there but really no answer. so yes, i think it is luck indeed as you say. plus i do think that it favors your site that you got ypn. its a great asset to show to a company that you are a syndicate. they feel good about it. :)

The $299 only gets them to look at your site, it does not guarantee that your site will get it.
I didn't know that you could submit your site for free, what page did you use to submit for free?

Goto the category your site should be in and on the bottom of the page is a "Suggest a Site" link. From there you can select paid or free submissions.

You're correct, that's how I submitted mine. So far traffic from being listed in the MySpace category on the Yahoo Directory is about 10 uniques a day... not anywhere near where I thought but I am getting an increase in my Yahoo search rankings since being accepted.

You can only submit for free non-commercial websites. If you are making money of your website (i.e. selling goods and services), then the free submission does not apply to you.
I did pay the $299 fee for Yahoo to take a look at my site. I do hope that I will get accepted.
