Google coming with an O/S (Operating system)?

I have heard a lot of rumours recently about Google developing its own O/S, to compete with Windows...

I am not quite sure they are going to release a OS. However, today they just released they email or office package for enterprise, in my opinion with the aliance with SUN Microsystem they have a great potential to create an OS :)

it'll take them ages to compete head on with the incumbents... even if it's true, it's probably something niche... :)

I wouldn't be surprised if a small portion of Google (be it software developers, or some person in the research department) was kicking around the idea of an operating system...but the funny thing is though that they don't like to release software in hard-copy, obviously they like to be able to change things on the fly and have everyone feel a change...I would happily play around with some Web 2.0 Operating System if, in the foreseeable future there was one, though they have a long ways to go.
