I posted this on another forum but wanted to get DP member's comments too. I've noticed many posts about others lifting {stealing} code off a web page. In many instances it appeared that the guilty party wasn't aware that this was an issue. :rolleyes:

What do you think about the idea of posting a notice in the form of a "comment" at the top/bottom of your pages warning potential code lifters?

If someone really wants to steal your pages or site, then they will do it no matter what warnings you put upon it. I have a disclaimer which covers all sorts, including copyright, but I've still had muppets steal code.

I then send my uncle around to do them over (only jokin!) my uncle is a solicitor so he's a good contact to know ;)

If someone really wants to steal your pages or site, then they will do it no matter what warnings you put upon it.I agree 100%. I'm thinking that this type of a warning might deter a few of the newbies who don't know any better. ;)

I think I agree... there is no way to detour those who are trying to maliciously steal, but for those that aren't away they can't "lift" code from a site, I think this is a great idea!

Jeffrey, good point. Can't you hide something in the code which if it was used on another domain showed up in your web stats?

I had a problem that someone stole some code but the silly buggar left the site stats code in lol so I was getting the hits on the domain they had loaded my code on, this is how I found them out.

Just a thought.

I'm seeing the same problem. They are not stealing my code (no one would want that :) ) but my idea and some content verbatim. I have a copyright, whatever that is worth, but so do they. How do you prove it is your material? What's to keep them from saying "I used it first and you are copying me?" Who enforces copyright laws?
