Just started this yesterday, so there is plenty of room for improvement i know

Just looking for some suggestions to make this directory stand out a bit. Colour ideas, format, style etc.

It seems a little plain to me... there is not much content to go through or anything, but i guess that will get better after the site has been up for a while. Another thing that I noticed is that the background on the header picture is not true white, I can see a color difference between that and the page background.

Just like kanutervalve said, color would really benefit the site.
Also, the banner looks a little blurry so you might want to get a higher resolution of the picture.

any other tips. I want to jaz it up a bit, but keep the format really simple.

Dont be afraid to use tables etc. It's nice that that script comes with a purely CSS template, but you could prolly source something free that looks more attractive.

If I were a pet owner, I'd prolly expect a more vibrant layout.

I suppose what I'm saying is what others above have said, plus don't be afraid to deviate from the script a little (I mean beyond tweaking a stylesheet and a graphic etc)

Yea, you need mroe color, more details, etc. Make the page come to life. You need pictures of pets, etc.

However, I can see such a page working very well. There are already too many PHP forums these days so its nice ot have a variety. Your ofrums are empty. I could post since I have pets but try to get more people.

yueah the forums were secondary right now. I'll work on them here and there.
