Recently I was watching the Colbert Report and he announced a new project. the1031project.com
Right away I jumped on godaddy and purchased two domains
the1031projects.com
the1031preojects.com

Through cashparking the first day (yesterday) I saw 400 impressions on the first and 6 clicks.
Should I use my free hosting credit with this and turn it into a good adsense reference site. What I'm saying is reference people to the idea Colbert had using a blog post but putting relevant ads around it. Or just let it ride out on the cashparking?

the mispellings are a long shot. wouldn't waste the money buying the domains unless you can verify very high traffic.

The plural of the domain is a good move. You can try removing 'the' and see if that domain, 1031project, and 1031projects are available.

How to monetize it, sorry, don't know what the site is about but think 'accessories'. If he is selling hamburger, then you sell the buns and mustard.
