I want to buy a domain name but its .com is not available.
So i have to go for .net or .co.in or .in (since my primary audience would be indians)
Which of these would you suggest ?

I would take .net personally. I know .in is popular in India, but still .net is extremely popular all over the world, so I assume it would be better in the long run.

My site would primarily cater to indian audiences thats why i thought of .co.in or .in
Does .in or co.in mean better SERP on Google India (google[dot]co[dot].in) than a .net domain ?
Or it doesn't matter much ?

Definately .net if you wanted .com primarily but if your only target will be traffic from India I guess .in would be better. Will the site be in english?

Yes the site will be in English. Related to Bollywood, the Indian Film Industry.

Go with .in
.Net is nonsense.

same here i'd go with .in, since you are catering a targeted area.

If I were you then I would have gone for .net or the audience targeted ccTLD.

A .in could help you in ranking higher in Google India.
Take the .in.

I think either .net or .in would be fine. Just remember, if you ever want to branch out, go with .net.

I also go with .net as my second choice. I've never had luck with .info domains, and never tried .org domains

Personally, I would go with a .net domain

.net will be your best bet. It mostly depends on what you have on your site, but .net should work second best (after .com) in most cases.

You need a .com. Consider adding something to the domain name like:
notavailable-site.com
notavailable-tutorial.com
etc.

It really does not matter to the search engines. I have .info domains with page rank and Traffic so I see no problem with any dot extension

As what you've said your website will cater to a specific group and geographical location, then you try to consider using .in. Besides it will be easier to remember and write in the browser.
E.g. www.bestinbollywood.in
www.bestinbollywood.co.in
www.bestinbollywood.net
Just take a look, which one looks better? Personally, .in. :)

Looks like it is almost 50% .net and 50% .in, except for those who have PR and traffic with any TLD!
I will suggest .in as you will get national recognition where your product target is.
Good Luck!

Since it's bollywood, ".in" makes the most since.

If it's for indians then go for .in, very simple!

Use .edu, then .net. Don't use .info. Google sees .info as trash sites. There is a reason the .info sites are only 1.99 on GoDaddy. And I don't think GoDaddy even shows .edu sites. You will have to go to NameCheap.com for those site listings. A .edu site will give your traffic them impression your site is for educational purposes, even if you are planning to market a product or service.

You can't register edu unless your an accredited postsecondary institution such as a college.
For OP...I like .net but you seem to need .in for your audience.

Do you have any proof to back that up?
Seems that if Google was penalizing .info's because there are so may spam sites on that extension, they would penalize their own blogger...there are far more MFA's and crappy blogs that are just an excuse to throw up a adsense, or banner farms than anywhere else on the web.
And I don't think GoDaddy even shows .edu sites. You will have to go to NameCheap.com for those site listings. A .edu site will give your traffic them impression your site is for educational purposes, even if you are planning to market a product or service.
Bad advice. .edu is not available to everyone, and that is why.

My _normal_ response (if you were appealing to an English-speaking, worldwide audience) would be: You're not going to like my answer, but find a different domain name. It's a time-proven fact that people automatically jump to the ".com" version of any domain name in their heads. I'm not saying it's *impossible* to have a successful website with a .anythingelse if the .com is taken, but you're going to suffer a lot of lost traffic and it will be all-in-all harder for your site to be big.
But in your case, if you're *targeting* an Indian audience, what appeals to an English-speaking worldwide audience does not matter. Go for the .in.
