Does anyone know anything about this virus, 'configure worm" ? Apperently it's a crafty one that hides itself without being detected. But come this Wednesday 'April Fools Day' it is set to show itself and attack millions of computers world wide. Apperently this is going to be extremely serious and many computers will more than likely end up with a fatal system.

On the bright side I hear that microsoft have some tool that can detect if the configure worm is hiding on ones computer, does anyone have the link for this?

This worm is called "Conficker" not "configure!"

And here is a site where I read about it yesterday and there is also some links there for removal tools.

It was kind of entertaining to read some of the comments there on that article. MS also put out a reward of $250,000 to any one that can identify the maker of the virus. So let me know if you know who it is... LOL

The worm isn't just exploiting a networking hole, however; it features a sophisticated method of cracking administrator passwords, making it difficult to remove, and also copies itself to USB drives so that it can spread even when the online flaw is plugged.

Conficker is just another regular bot-skiddie worm that infects computers on a large scale. Only difference between it and other bots; is that it uses 0day exploits bought from the real hackers. After some idiots decided to try and scare people, it became a publicity stunt. The attackers will never format your drives as some people say, they are just after your accounts and credit cards so they can sell them at script kiddie websites and trade them for porn passwords.

The exploits they used are not 0day (private) anymore, therefore, the only way to get infected is if your system is not up-to-date.

The binary (.exe) is updated frequently to avoid anti-virus by using data encryption.

Soon enough, the bot master will notice it makes him no money, and he will likely get bored and go back to spamming emails to make $12.41 per day, or be thrown in jail.
