I tried submitting sitemaps to Yahoo Explorer, but I'm stuck with them under 'New' status. I don't know what action to take next.

You'll need to authenticate your site by adding an authentication code into your site or create a page as instructed there.

Yahoo supports sitemaps.
Here is a help article from them on how you can let them know about your sitemap

You need to do authentication by uploading an xml file or adding a meta verification tag on your home page. I think for yahoo adding a verification meta tag will be good. After adding meta verification tag to your homepage header section than click on ready to authenticate. You will see your website status will be changed to active...

You can submit using the Yahoo site explorer , the same sitemap file as used by Google, there is no need for authentication.

LOL! if people talk about it it means it exist.
Anyway, I think I have found the answer to your problem. Just like in google when you submit a sitemap you have to first verify your site by adding a meta tag. Unfortunately the tag that yahoo provided is not closed properly like the one below.
<META name="y_key" content="fc449cc8fddc7c68">
Fortunately, I have played around html thingy so I got the hint. You must close it properly by adding / before the closing >. simply put it should look like this
<META name="y_key" content="fc449cc8fddc7c68"/>
I did just that a couple of minutes ago and now my blog is autehnticated by yahoo.
By the way, don't forget to click "ready to authenticate" after you have successfully added the meta tag in your homepage.
Good luck!

in yahoo and msn u can authenticate at yahoo site explorer and msn LIVE webmater....
but if u use wordpress, xml sitemap with the file sitemap.xml plugin, you can actually submit ur sitemap update to msn and yahoo as well as ask. u need a yahoo application ID.
you can read more about it here (https://developer.yahoo.com/wsregapp/).
hope that helps
