It's better to use these dollars in adwords, or in some other traffic generated options.

Depends. I think it's still dofollow...it's still known as a very highly trusted directory. If you have the money, it might be worth doing as getting high quality dofollow backlinks is becoming harder each year.

I would say no it's not worth it, unless you have a huge marketing budget.

I used to be a good source of traffic and a relevant link to have, lately both yahoo directory and DMOZ have lost the relevance. For $300 you can get so much more today than just one link from yahoo.

I don;t think its worth. As earlier member said if you have a huge marketing campaign than you should go for that, otherwise no need to do.

but I'm asking about if it affect YAHOO! results
forget about google we will work on backlinks and PR but what about Yahoo. I think they should consider websites in their directory to rank higher

Getting in yahoo directory for free (non commercial) websites is easy or hard ? Are they somewhat similar to DMOZ when it comes to free submissions ?

It depends of your business and how money you get from your traffic. The inclusion is still expensive and Yahoo does not guarantee the inclusion. The worst thing of all is that they keep your money even if your website is rejected for inclusion. You could totally waste your money because of their politics. It should not be your first place.

I would say spend the money on beer, rather than pay Yahoo $300 for doing nothing.

$300 is a very big amount, if you will pay in any other area then you can get more traffic in Search engine, so my opinion is don't pay $300 for this

I've submitted to 1000 directories and only 20 directories were indexed by site explorer.

If your site has an active user base, provides unique content that others want to see, submit your site to the open directory ( dmoz.org ). Like Yahoo's directory submission, it's not guaranteed.
Open directory is used by many other directories, however, and it couldn't hurt if your site is already complete and established. It can take weeks for your submission to be reviewed.

That does seem steep.
I'd pass.
That model may have worked in the past for Yahoo, but I can only imagine less and less businesses are signing up for that.

I have been in the yahoo directory for years with my primary site/ source of income. At this point, I keep it in there because if it aint broke, dont fix it... however, it does seem like a throwaway of $300/ bucks a year. My rankings are very strong in google for competitive keywords.
Most of those same keywords we are nowhere to be found in yahoo... 4 or 5 years ago, I was at the top of yahoo for everything related to my industry. We still got only 20-30 visitors a day from yahoo. (Telecom stuff, voip, phone systems etc..)
I am looking at the water from my balcony thinking that if I had the 300 back... I could pay for a 20 dive package... such is life

I think you'd better buy expired domains which are old enough and were included to yahoo directory before 2001.
Any commercial site submitted through the Yahoo! Directory Submit service after December 28, 2001 will be charged an annual listing fee of $299. I know that commercial sites submitted before December 28, 2001 are off the hook; They will remain in the directory but will not have to pay the annual listing fee.
PM me if you want to buy such domains.

there are millions of website in the directory of yahoo.
so, whos gona visit your site ? Instead of doing that, try using some services like 2000 directory submission and put this money into adwords and banner advertisement or increasing the layout and design of the site by a single bit :D
