It's no longer possible. It used to be, about 4-5 years ago if you submitted to the Canadian, UK or Australian directory, but those are now pay-only.

Did anyone here actually try looking into the Yahoo Directory before giving all those incorrect "no" answers? Check this link — http://add.yahoo.com/fast/add?259585

Yahoo does have a free submission option. However, it is very difficult to get in via the free option. I've been trying unsuccessfully for four years. :(

it is possible if your site is non commercial and only for helping people gain information.

if you have such a site then you are upto get a link from yahoo.

it is not a magic pill to give you an instant relief.

you need to wait ages to get listed there for free :D

roger123
Mar 8th 2009, 12:09 pm

As far as I know, the free method is for non-commercial sites, you have to pay to submit commercial sites. However, my sites are Wordpress based and I submit my sitemaps for free to all the major search engines, including Yahoo, via a Wordpress XML compliant sitemap plugin. I got mine listed for free that way.

Unless you are a really big authority site and yahoo editors consider that it is a must to have your site in their directory there is no way to get a free listing.

fortunately one of my site got listed way back.
I am still trying for my other sites for the free listing option, but not getting through.
I think they are not encouraging any more for free listing, the option available just for impression.

I think you'd better buy expired domains which are old enough and were included to yahoo directory before 2001.

Yeah it used to be free a few years ago, my host submitted my site to all of the engines with a nifty little script provided by them but yeah you can't do it anymore unless you pay.

That "free submission" option hasn't even been functional in the past 7 years. I don't even think they know that field is still up there.

agree with the above comment ... i had too submitted for FREE in that way.

now also its free to submit but only non-commercial sites accepted as free ... otherwise we need to pay yahoo for inclusion.

Yes, all of you are almost right. Yahoo won't list commercial sites in it's directory without paying for it. But, they do offer free indexing for some really out of usual non-commercial sites.

i agree with your view that for non-commercial site yahoo submission is free but for commercial purpose it is paid you need to pay the early yahoo dir charges.
