Ugh! So it's been two weeks since I put ads on my gossip site (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=115736) and it's pretty obvious I won't even break the $100 mark this month which seems really retarded for the amount of traffic I have. I'll certainly be in the six digit range for pageviews this month but the money I'm making is crap.
I'm pissed off and frustrated. I feel my site has value but adsense clearly isn't going to turn a reasonable profit and I don't know where/how to get an advertiser that will benefit and is willing to pay for it.
Is it unrealistic to think I deserve at least $3 per thousand pageviews?
How can I get an advertiser that'll pay per thousand pageviews?
Can Shawn say screw the 'minimun of 50 posts rule ' so I can at least make some cash from the adsense revenue generated from this thread and the 10 other threads I'm likely going to write this week asking what the hell is up with my site? **kidding**

The ad placement could be the problem. Try playing around with ad placement to find out which is best!

Adsense is a fairly lazy way to make money and it just does not do well on some sites. I would take others up on their assistance though, because you can tweak things and see some decent improvements, potentially.
Just don't get in the mindset that Adsense is the way to make money as a publisher. It is only one tool in your arsenal.

I think you should play around with your ad placement as well.

Adsense just doesn't work extremely well with certain sites. You might want to look into joining a CPM network such as Casale or Valueclick. However you definitely won't be getting a eCPM of $3.00. The only way you can get such an eCPM is to track down advertisers yourself... which could be more hassle than it's worth.

Try using a darker colour, and make the adsense ads white. Don't know URL of your blog/site so cannot help more.

Yep, celebrity sites don't do well with adsense in terms of click value. CPC of of 1-3 cent is the norm.

Maybe you should try pay per impression? SO you get paid atleast $3 per 1000 clicks. Try fastclick or a program similar to it.

Thanks for your help everyone! :)
I've made the ads a bit darker and moved them around some and it's made a huge difference.
After some thinking, I came to the conclusion that a big reason the ads aren't performing well is that the site was designed without ad placement in mind.
Anyways, does anyone use www.valueclickmedia.com ? If so what's your opinion of them?
