I would say

#1 google likes Squidoo

#2 you can put multiple links in the text unlike some article directories that only allow you to put links in the resource box.

#3 you can put affiliate links in the lens

#4 you can make money off of the lens itself

Just to add

Being squidoo one of the high authority sites, links from squidoo helps you in search engine rankings

Very targeted traffic if you associate with active groups

Interact and comment on others' lenses. It will make your lens popular and achieve some good lensrank

Submitting the lens to squid directories and bookmarking it will give a decent pagerank to your lens.. That will give some good PR backlinks from lens..

Also,

It could be used as a landing page for a product you are promoting.

You hit it right on the head. And a Squidoo lens can also help with your SERP for particular links (I recommend anchor text links) you place within the lens.

Also use HubPages...

Squidoo can send you traffic. I get a small amount from Squidoo — about 150 unique visitors a month. But that tends to be targeted traffic.

All of these answers were true and good.

If you would like a little extra Squidoo education, there is a free .pdf that answers your questions about the benefits of Squidoo here:

There are many ways people use squidoo.

You can benefit an existing site with squidoo, as you can easily get 20+ extra backlinks to your site, and any traffic from the lens, will most likely go straight back to your lens. With a good rank (http://www.Squidoo.tk), you should easily get a few hundred visitors.

If you are contemplating on either making a new site or a new lens, again lenses, are easier, as you will get indexed faster, and you will get a boost to your PR, I did anyways, and is especially good for long tailed niches, and no domain or hosting fees. :D

Also you can make money of Royalties, most lenses in the Top 100 make $5-$50/month, not to bad.

There are many benefits with Squidoo, only one thing is that you are unable to copy content, ie, if you are BUM marketing you can grab an article, from you content site, a post from your blog, etc, and just chuck it up on a article directory, ie, ezinearticles, but with squidoo you can't do that. But nothing stopping you from doing both.

Hope this helped

I too agree with your words. No Domain registration, No Web hosting. Just enjoy all the benefits of Squidoo. Moreover as it is dofollow, you can make an optimum use of it.

it is especially good for people trying to get a PR, it isn't hard to link back to your site 20 or so times, and most lenses get PR very easily. I have a few lenses with a PR3, and nearly all have atleast a PR2 or so.

Definitely beneficial to have a squidoo lens, with or without a site.

some people use them for link building, some use them to make money from the lens (adsense, affiliate marketing), some use them as landing pages, some to get traffic from Squidoo internal network, etc. you get ton of benefits with a lens.

All the reasons listed above are useful. I like it because it allows me to choose a very specific niche, build a page quickly and get the page ranked for key terms. Then I can route the resulting traffic where ever I want, be it to a website, to a source of income or elsewhere.

For me a Squidoo lens can be powerful, but better yet, having many lenses, each focused on a specific term is the real key.

Other sites should not be overlooked as some also allow dofollow links and can do well in search results.

After Squidoo, Gather is my favorite but I am experimenting with several web 2.0 sites.

There are a multitude of ways to make money with your Squidoo lens (http://www.squidoo.com/make_money-with_squidoo), also, I have found that by using a Lens as an Adwords landing page, I am able to get Great quality scores quite easily

It's a lot easier to create a single Lens then to have to build a mini-site to get a great quality score

Create a Squidoo lense, publish some unique content, get it indexed in Google and it will drive targeted traffic to your site for months to come.
The traffic isn't much but at least it's targeted and you will get a few backlinks as well :) You can easily outsource the whole Squidoo thing too...

How do you get a pr for a squidoo lens - is it the same as everything else- ie backlinks from forums, directories, other social bookmarking sites etc or is there a way within squidoo? Is it just through promoting your lens in what chillingbreeze said:

Yes. The lens directories (http://squidutils.com/blog/squidoo/the-best-lens-directories) are also good for PR.

Yes. You can edit a lens as often as you like.

Squidoo lens is cool because it is easy to add unique content to it. There are many modules that you can experiment with.

Another thing that you should always remember is, Google loves Squidoo and you can use Squidoo to rank for keywords with low competition easily.
