Hi,

Anybody tell me what is forum link building ? how its helpful for search engine optimization ?

There are two methods of forum link building.

Sig Links: Putting your link in your signature file and posting like a rabbit in heat to increase the number of links pointed to your site. Alternatively you can "rent" the sig links of other members on a given forum.

Post Links: Post links are better for traffic, as most people become ad-blind to sig links. I'll read a post and scroll down to the next post, completely skipping any sigs between the two. However, if a post contains a link that seems relevant to the topic I'll often click it.

Both help to get pages indexed in search engines.
Both can assist in getting a higher SERP (check out my auto sig links for an example).
Both can potentially bring in HUMAN traffic (if a post is good, people will notice the sig links! if they are relevant or eye catching)
Well placed links can assist in PR (check your profile, sticky threads, and a few popular threads, some have PR5!)A few relevant threads:

Head down to the buy sell trade forums ( Link Sales (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58)) and look at the posts. Many people here "sell" their sig links for a month at a time. There is some money in it if you can play your cards right ;)

Here is a random example from the front page: WTB signature link rentals-webmaster/im forums (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1210485)

Well..for me..Forum posts are grossly over-rated as they are distibuted on internal pages with no PR value. However, if you do manage to find a PR internal page on a forum and post on it with your URL or signature, I guess it is worth the pain.

I don't like forum links either, to much work and they never did anything for me, plus you have to spend a lot of time to become "into" the forum or your motives look clear as day...

Focus on other areas IMO

Ahhh, I see said the blind man to the deaf woman, Hehe. It seems obvious now that you point it out. So the higher caliber the members you work with the better the advertisement.

Thanks,

No, not exactly.

A prolific poster will certainly get you the numbers, and their multitudes of posts will certainly help out in the link department, but honestly, how many times have you been browsing around DP to get your car parts?

If I had a link in my sig for something about link development then I'd be pulling in a great deal of traffic from THIS site as well as pushing the SERP over the top. So content and relevance SHOULD play a role in forum link building.

I used to have an SEO link in my sig and the guy that bought it gave me rave reviews over the amount of DP traffic he was getting from my sig, yet my occult sigs I've only get around 2 or 3 hits a month from *shrug* In the last year I've only gotten two confirmed members to my forum (which is no longer linked) but on contrast, when I was on another occult forum I pulled in about a new member a month from another occult forum I was posting on.

Check out my Buying sig links? Read this first! (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=694169) thread that I pointed too in the first post here for more information.

If you want to push a site on Link Development (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13) you'd do MUCH better to find a member that posts in this forum over something like Payment Processing (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=101) or some such (or vise versa)...and the guy that is renting my sig space would pull in more traffic if he went to an automotive site and rented one... though, heh, offering to buy sigs on other forums could likely get you banned and your sig marked as a spammer. So keep that in mind as well.

Really, how much help can a link in a sig help? If I posted a thousand times on this site with my sig link would it not really lose relevance after the first post as it is just the same link from the same site, so really has the relevance of one back link?

Or am I wrong in this thinking?

Wouldn't different threads be different links?

I think links are calculated domain wide rarely for certain domains on certain engines. I think Google does that to digg if I remember right.

In the forum keep some quantity of links has to work regulerly, if stop working on forum for a period of time will loose all the links... bcz in each index many links will disappear from it by moving the post to the inner pages

And what happens with regards to if I change my sig now - Will it change so that I am leaving different links or will it change all my previous post links too so that they are still all the same?

This is a really informative and helpful thread to me, but I also have a question...

When posting forum to forum, how do you know which forums aren't spidered through by bots? Is there a tool to check?

Google works well enough. Take a thread thats a few days old, "quote a line" from a post into the search and click enter. If it shows up, it's spidered.

If the forum has a CRAP LOAD of members then it will still bring in traffic regardless of whether or not its spidered or nofollow as the HUMANS will certainly see it.

When you add your signature to your posts on forums, you are placing a link that is going back to your website. Commenting on do follow blogs is another way to have links directing back to your site as well :)

Forum link building is what most people here are doing! Posting comments with ridiculous links in their signatures!

as suppose in this forum there is a signature section at the bottom of every post......when you sign up for an account you can fill in the signature forum either with you website/blog or entereing anchor text in the signature....

Forum signatures directly helps SERP and also brings referral traffic. DP forum is bringing me decent traffic from signature link.

very good point. I never thought about actual traffic. makes more sense than just building useless links. traffic is what really matters. thanks for the infor! much appreciated.

I am going to give you an example of what forum link building is.
Each time you make a post with a link in it in a forum with good traffic such as DP, Google will index it and this count as a link.
So what you are reading right now is one link.
