Hi,

Just curious to see, let's say your targeting a very competitive keyword, like
"Online casino" with about 2m results.

How many backlinks b4 google would rank you in the top 20 for "Online casino"

the current top site has 188,000 yahoo links.

It may be 1,000 for top 20 or 1,000,000 for top 1,000. It depends on the quality of the backlinks and the quality makes very BIG difference.

its the quality of relevant links, not the quantity. to get an idea about how many links on average you need, just check the backlinks of your competitors on yahoo site explorer

If you want to know it in figure then I would suggest

1000 directory submission
200 forum posting
200 article and pr posting and
500 bookmarking will do the trick.

200 forum posting
200 article and pr posting .

Do it and you will rank really better.

...wait for a month a your site position will drop. Why?
Because the forum posts and articles will not be on the front page of the forum category/article directory. Many other people will submit many other posts and articles and your links will be placed in pages with lower pagerank.

If you decide for this SEO strategies you will need to post and write articles regularly for the long term effect.

It depends on the quality of your site (onpage optimization) and domain name.
It depends on the quality of the backlinks. So basically nobody could answer your question :D
