I got a domain from someone and I changed it DNS but its still pointing to the ip of the old hosting service it was on.
When I do the whois, it shows the new nameservers but the ip is the old one. Whats wrong with it?
Thanks

Maybe it just didn't update on your end yet, what's the domain name? Try browsing it from a proxy.

The issue is that the same content is at both the ips. Its still at the original ip as I've done whois using a couple of sites.

May I know the URL to check it for you, like I said it may just be on your end. And also how do you have the DNS setup? Did you set them up yourself or did your host give them to you?

DNS can take up to 48 hours to update, you might just need to wait a bit.

Yep since you registered your own DNS (registered your IP's to dns) this could take some time. You should of registered your dns then waited about 24+ hours and then changed your nameservers. Who is your domain register?

It's the TTL, or time-to-live value, in the DNS records...plus, the local DNS caches within operating systems and proxy servers.
The correct way to do this is to reduce the TTL value to something small, like 10 minutes, wait two days, and then make the changes to the DNS A records.
In any case, you can just wait it out for 48 hours or so. You'll still have a few stragglers due to broken dns client caching, but the vast majority of the traffic will have moved over.

Well its working through my host now, but I didn't register my own DNS's.
Was using the host's and using the same DNS for a couple of other sites. Its just that this time around it took longer than usual to update.
I am using namecheap.
