I've had one and one for about eight years now, and love them. Eight years and my websites have gone down only once for 30min (that I am aware of).

I have my hosting with them and registered a new domain today, they say it can take up to 12 hours for the registration to go through. But from my experience it goes a little faster then that. I'm not sure how it works if you are not hosted through them.

As far as 1and1.com is concerned they will charge your Paypal within one week from the date of purchase.

Do not worry. I had same thing with me when I purchased domains from them. They charged my paypal after 7 days. You have paypal agreement with them .. They will charge automatically.

1and1 is a joke, they took a month to charge me and I was constantly worried I would lose the domain.
Try a nomal registrar like godaddy or name.com who complete the transaction immediately.
The renewals are also strange, you can't renew yourself, you must wait for them to do it automatically.

No, I did have access to my domain right away but since they didn't bill me I was afraid of losing it.
Are you sure you don't have access to your new domains yet?
Maybe you do and they just didn't tell you.

I wouldn't recommend 1and1.com

A friend of mine used 1and1 and a heck of a time with their shady business and lack of commitment with their support.

OMG im stupid or well, 1and1 is. Now problem is solved. Actually, i had hosting account with 1and1. So i did sign in to my account and registered the domain, and i was looking for the domaiin in my existing account. I just noticed now that they had given a new customer number, so i did login to that account and there is the domain :) happy now :)

I believe I made the horrendous mistake of choosing a company because it had a 5 page ad in a popular computer magazine. In my opinion 1and1, with CEO Oliver Mauss, is a horrible company and many customers have voiced a host of complaints on various blogs. It should be a warning that when their phone is answered by a recording that tells you if you have gotten a notice from NCO, a collection agency, to press a certain number. If they are a reputable business, why do they have to send so many accounts to a collection agency?
Also Investigative journalist, Kelli Jack, has written 30 articles about this company and has a suit pending against them. Kelli alleges that 1and1 stole her domain name and sold it. Kelli states: "1and1 should be shut down."

I have filed complaints with the FBI, FTC, PA. BBB, ICANN, and others. I recommend everyone else having a problem do the same.

And finally, the Washington DC, Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau has them listed as "Unsatisfactory" Read comments on the BBB why. Read some customer comments on Red Flag.

some how 1AND1 registration service really slow.. I ordered a domain from them a year ago, I waited but after the payment registration was not completed.. They were really slow, just like they are making the registration manually  by theirselfs.. I'll not recommend anyone to use 1and1 for registering domains, I have no idea about heir other services.. As we all now GoDaddy kicks ass

Wow! Sounds like everyone has had shitty experiences with 1and1. They work great for me. Domains register and are usable within 2hours. I've only called customer service three times but they answer quickly after the stupid automated menu. The customer service reps are knowledgeable and fix my issue(s) immediately while I'm still on the phone with them.

Are we talking about the same company? Maybe they treat their US customers different. Or maybe becuase I've host with them for nine years now.

I have several domains registered at 1and1.com. I did not face any problem. The only problem is that they do ot register domains instantly. Domain registration order takes 4-5 hours to complete. Hence, if you want to register domains with an immediate order execution then go for name.com or enom.com

I think, for new account domain registration from 1and1 is really risky.Because, they takes 1 week time for register a domain!
