It's no secret that link-building is critical
for SEO, and therefore important to get
you a good amount of search engine traffic.

However, apart from search engine traffic,
there are other ways of getting traffic using
Web2.0.

Twitter is a prime example of this. It has no
link power but it does give you direct traffic.

So is link building your only traffic strategy?

Apart from link building what other ways do
you prefer to getting traffic?

eg. Twitter.

link building is NO traffic strategy for me at all
i get traffic from working harder/more and better = new content = LOTS of content and top SERPS on many/most pages i create
my best traffic strategy is AGE of site combined with ON-page SEO ( answers your other thread )
it appears that the older the site gets while creating lots of content, the easier it is to get into top serps on newly created content-pages
I do NO linkfarming and have never spent a cent on link-building/exchange

In my opinion quality content and seo are better solutions than link building.

It shouldn't be your only traffic building strategy, but it does happen to be the one which is likely to show the best results in the long run ( along with quality content)

Agree with the above, I combine link building with a lot of time spent on content to provide my results

Link building is inherent to building up good content. If you have good content the links will come.

I am using it as my main traffic driver. Tried stumbleupon but experienced an unsustainable traffic in the long run. What will happen is just a spike in the stats before it falls again. I will be glad to see what other people has good recommendations for sustainable, targeted traffics....:)

I try to add some links almost every day but it's not really as a traffic strategy. 90% of my traffic is coming from natural search results to my highly keyword optimized quality blog content; almost nothing from comments. It may help in search results but I put my focus on the content.

I have just started using Twitter since last weekend but have still not fathomed how to use it to its full potential but we will work it out in the end.

link building is not my only traffic strategy... Social bookmarking like twitter and digg is a quick traffic boost.

Traffic exchanges with other sites are different then link building.

Article marketing which is a form of link building works well for me but i would say link building is my major way of generating traffic.

I think link building is very effective for generating traffic but I also get
traffic from social bookmarking sites.

I'm only considering link building since the traffics coming from otehr methods doesn't really convert well.

But how exactly you get traffic from Social Bookmarking Sites?

I totally agree with hans.... for me content and other on-page optimization plays a vital role to attract traffic.... link building is just one part of it.

I mean i do Twitter, digg, all other social bookmarks, stumble, write articles, add content to my site, myspace, facebook, i do everything. But all that does is get some traffic, spread the word, and really create LINKS. Its all about what gets my good search rankings because it is people searching for something specific that get to my site is the person that converts into a sale.
This is me as i mainly sale products, as far as other people have other sites that want traffic do other things, so these other forms may do better for them, but web 2.0 stuff really doesn't convert well usually, however getting good ratings and stuff from these sites and the people that use them can give you useful long term benefits.

Link building the best way of promoting the site and also getting good rank. So naturally gives more traffic by promotion and PR is related to traffic. High PR site will get good traffic. dont compare between PR3 and PR5 compare between high PR sites>5

Link Building (from the word itself) means putting links to other websites to gain BACKLINKS. They are not primarily for traffics. But there are chances of gaining traffic from it.
Social Networking and joining different social groups is a good way of marketing a website.

The most important is quality content, so that the visitor comes back again and again.
