A blogroll is a sitewide link. At least on WordPress blogs. Besides, all links coming into your site is valuable. Get as many as you can of every type. Vary the anchor text to make it look more natural.

i think its more valuable to have a content link, than a sidebar link.

As stated, blogroll links are sitewide, but blogroll links are better than content links as content links often fall off the page once a certain number of posts have been made beyond the one in which your link is placed.

A blogroll (which is sitewide in Wordpress) would be better than sitewide footer links.

Google does not like sitewide links, it's difficult to say which is better.

I would go for a blogroll with a description around or next to your link e.g.
"LINK - A website about what my link is about."
I would also agree with suffolkpoker that a content link is best. This looks natural to Google and that is what your link profile should look like.

@suffolpoker if you have a blogroll or side bar link you get a link for every page on a persons blog. If they have 100 posts you get 100 links. That is what I have noticed.
Why not get both.
