From ZDNET UK: http://news.zdnet.co.uk/internet/ecommerce/0,39020372,39190652,00.htm
Girls like dolls, and their presents should be wrapped in pink paper. Whether it is obvious or not, Amazon now holds the patent on the idea
"The gender information may be used in determining which gift wrapping colors and patterns should be suggested when the item is being purchased as a gift. For example, if it is inferred that the recipient is a girl, pink or pastel colored gift wrapping may be suggested first."
Obviously, many are not impressed:

Similarly on the OsCommerce forums I read about a company holding patents on e-commerce. So they were sueing everyone they could find trading on the net. How stupid is that?! Luckily that one got finally overruled it seems.
Amazon's one click buy patent (http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=/netahtml/srchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=5,960,411.WKU.&OS=PN/5,960,411&RS=PN/5,960,411) is prbably the most hated of all.
I'm thinking of filing a patent for taking a crap. I'll license the technique to all who want to use it for just $0.0000001 every time. Pretty cheap hey?!
