How long for cheque to clear ?

I put my 1st adsense cheque into my HSBC uk bank account on 7th march does anyone have any idea how long it will take to clear?

I also had to pay £5 for currency conversion.

Usually all banks can negociate these checks, that means they can buy it from you and instantly give you the cash. It functions in Asia, 'cause they are using computers to check back with city bank immediately.
One to five minutes to clear a check is the only options.
If not, screw your bank!

When I was a first timer on my bank it takes upto 4 week to clear the adsense check. But as the check came regularly and have no problems clearing it from google's bank, they gave me instant clearing privilege.

Good 'ol USof(Southern)A and Wachovia is 5 business days maximum (Typically 1 day), BOA is 10 business days maximum (Typically 1 day), and BB&T a 7 day maximum (Typcially 1-2 days).

I had problems at the beginning to find the right bank which acts swiftly and without taking to much of 'comission'. I talked to many banks and was dissapointed time and again.
Some told me that I've to wait up to 45 days to clear plus $32.00 clearance fee. Others rejected and told me that I need to have an account for at least six month to clear a check there.
Big Banks are more reluctant than smaller ones, a kind of ignoring, not faithful in little things.
Now I pay $5.00 and get the money instantly into my account.
Don't give up searching for a bank that serves you well, - there are good ones everywhere.
In fact you can even force your bank to act faster. They can check and compare online with City Bank, the rest is paper work for the Banks. Your Bank doesn't need to wait for the 'Slow Train' to deliver the money to your Bank first.

I hear that. Those UK rules are just unreasonable and can only server to stifle small business development. The US is far from perfect but it is certainly the best country in the world for the entrepreneur, IMO.

In india, the clearence depends on the amount and bank. Some big banks will take 21days to complete the transaction. But some smaller ones gives you money instantly. ( if its below $500 )

Most of the banks take about 2.5% total sum. The small bank that I mentioned are mainly local banks. But again they will take about 2.5% as total commission.

little update:

I went into my local hsbc today and told them that my adsense cheque havnt cleared yet and i put it in while ago, they said usa always takes longer and it should take no longer than 10days.

Lets hope this is true the person i spoke to was a young girl so she might not be correct.

My advice to all is PRESSURE your bank. All financial institutions know who Google is. I see not reason to with hold funds unless you are a criminal. I know that alot of this will depend on your repor with your bank, so go talk to the manager and explain that you require immediate clearance of these funds. If that doesn't work try a few different banks.

My question is different. How long do I have to cash or deposit the check? Usual 30 days or more?

I am in Pakistan > Islamabad. I receive chaque from 2 to 3 weeks after the chaque is posted from google. And My bank clear it in 2 to 3 weeks.

If you have account in the same bank from where the cahque is issues than it may take only one business day to recive payment from google. If you have account in some other bank than you have to wait from 2 to 4 weeks and the bank also deduct a small money for this transection!

Copy that. It's a rip off. It's cheaper for me to fly to Holland, take cash out of the cash point, dump it on my Rabobank account and then transfer the money to friends/family/etc. And fly back.

I live in Reno Nevada. Two minutes at the Cashiers cage and I have cash for my check, a ticket for the drawing and two free drinks. Best of all the casino does this for free and I walk without spending a penny, well I do tip if the bartender is female and cute.

I was surprised though because I didnt think they would cash G checks, I guess a casino will cash just about anything these days. Sorry to hear you guys are having trouble. Hopefully G will make it easier in the near future.

Too true, but you should try living in Spain.......I'd never had any bank charges before coming here and in less than 18months I've been charged 500 euros (this is a current account not a business account) have managed to get 120 Euros back.

A UK chq should take 5 working days to clear.....BUT be warned if the chq is stolen the bank will take the money back..


Someone from Ebay send you a chq for £200 for goods valued at £80, you contact them and agree to pay them the £120, the £200 chq clears, but a few weeks later the bank finds out the chq is a stolen one, bank then takes the £200 out of your account, you loose our in a big way.

I currently get checks from Clickbank and they take 20 days to clear because they're in US dollars. (Currently I'm with Commonwealth Bank Australia) Anyone else here from Australia? Seems like if I shop around I can find a Bank that will clear the money for me instantly! :)
