I was kinda surprised to see my blog popping up in the top 9th position in Yahoo for a very high premium keyword.
The keyword has a total of 777,000,000 results in yahoo dot com
Just wanted to be sure if it counts any weight?

I'm on the 4th spot on the first page for a good key word. I think yahoo is used by about 20% of people who use search engines so I really don't pay attention to yahoo

Yahoos shit they only have 8.6% of the UK search market share, while Google has 78% they do slightly better in America but I dont know what the stats are but its no where near 20 % only Google archive that or better.
Its easy to get to the top of Yahoo just buy a domain name containing your main keyword, add some content and then wait for it to hit the first page of Yahoo without any other work, this is the reason Google took over the market in the first place because Yahoo could never get the results to show the best sites and here we are years later and they are no better. My sites rank number 1 in yahoo for "Pit Bikes" and "PS3 Linux"

You can easily rank good if the keyword is easy - non-commercial, but if the word is a competitive it is not an easy job to rank good

It depends on the target audience of the site.
It is better to rank well in regional yahoo if you are in places such as Taiwan and Hong Kong

Ranking well in yahoo for a competitive keyword will not guarantee
high traffic because yahoo isn't very popular these days.

There's no Guaranty that a new site will be indexed by yahoo. When my site is indexed by google within a week, yahoo includes not a single.

Personally i would say yes, any single click from search engine does matters, it does not matter from which search engine the click is.

To answer you, yes of course it matters
And to the people that say its only 20%, well, 20% is a lot, come on, who will refuse visitors even if it comes from N20000 search engine.
One question- does someone know where I can check keyword popularity in yahoo.

I give more importance to ranking in google rather than yahoo since it is not used by many. I get only 10% of the total organic traffic from yahoo.

Yahoo ranking system is very sensitive to the domains similarity to the keyword search. I have several websites that have tiny content but rank above the fold because because my domain is close to the keyword search phrase. Do a search on "probate lawyer" i own probate lawyer dot org.
This phrase is hugely competitive on Google.

Yahoo's used by 65 million users per month, now you need to figure it out if its important or not!

Thank you everyone for clearing my doubts.
Actually, i did not optimize my blog for SE's, i think its just the domain name which is very very premium but with a sluggish extension which helps me rank Top 9 in yahoo.
Thanks again friends

Yahoo is still a very large SE so why wouldn't you worry about it? If it can make you more traffic then why not? Google isn't everything ;)

Regardless of volumes, getting ranked highly in Yahoo has to be an achievement. Maybe not from a monetisation perspective but it probably reflects the quality of your content.

Of course it is! Having good SERP in major Search Engines like Yahoo! is good. As you have good SERP in each and evry SEs, the higher traffic you'll get!

Well the rankings matter if you get good number of visitors from yahoo. If you rank seven in such a huge keyword then you must be getting some nice visits from yahoo.

Yeah, the traffic is damn good!
The blog is 6 months old without any promotion and update and still climbing the alexa ladder, nearing the 1 millionth mark.

I think there are very few people that use Yahoo. Most of us use either google or answers dot com. Yahoo is good but Google is better than yahoo.

Top yahoo rankings will not drive any large traffic into your blog .Have you analyzed the the results of being in the top position ?? How much web traffic you are getting for that keyword??
