Hey guys,
I was doing some reading here at DP and found someone's formula for determining quality, etc of a link. I thought it was quite interesting so I tied it into an excel sheet so that I can just plug in a few numbers into the spreadsheet and it will figure up for me which link is probably the most cost effecient purchase.
Please Note: This is for your Page Rank only and only meant to be a guide. The quality of traffic you might receive is not factored in!
Below is the link to a zip file containing the excel file. Just plug in numbers. Below is a quick guide:
Really only Columns B, C, and D are the ones that are important for it to figure. Others are self-explanatory for just keeping track.
PR (Col. B) - The PR of the page that you would receive your link on. Do NOT type "PR" before the number. Only use a numeric value. (Example: 4)
OBL (Col. C) - Stands for "Outbound Links". You should review the website yourself and should be a rough estimate for how many outbound links there are on that page (not including nofollow). The average is probably about 10 and it should include the link you will be placing on the page if you want it to be fairly accurate.
Price Per Month (Col. D) - Type in a numeric value. You should only type in how much it will cost per month.
Link Juice (Col. E) - A numeric value for how much link juice will be sent to your site.
Good Buy (Col. F) - A numeric value for how much you are spending for each point of your link juice. This is a good indicator of whether the link is a a good buy or not. The higher the number, the better the buy. Keep in mind that some links are way overpriced.
More about the Link Juice Numeric Value!
According to the author of this formula, the following numbers are fairly accurate estimates about how much "link juice" your website needs to reach specific PR levels.
PR0 = 0.15
PR1 = 1
PR2 = 6
PR3 = 36
PR4 = 216
PR5 = 1296
PR6 = 7796
PR7 = 46656
PR8 = 279936
PR9 = 1679616
PR10 = 10077696
So in the excel sheet, a website only providing less than 1 point in "Link Juice" is not very valuable in the full spectrum of things.
Since I am certain Google's algorithm is quite complex, I'm not sure how accurate these numbers are, but they seem like a good basic concept to follow for those who are totally lost about how to increase their Page Rank.

AN EXAMPLE OF THE FORMULA AT WORK:
Assume a PageRank 0 page is linked to by a PR 5 page's only outgoing link.
PR5 --> PR1
Page A PR5 = 1296 points
1296 x 0.85 = 1101 points
Page B = 0.15+ 1101 = 1101.15
Result: Page B has now been assigned over the 216 points required for PR 4 but less than the 1296 required for PR5. Its PR becomes 4 from the single link.
Assume a PageRank 0 page is linked to by one of a PR 5 page's 10 outgoing links.
PR5 --> PR1
Page A PR5 = 1296 points
(1296/10) x 0.85 = 110 points
Result: Page B has now been assigned over the 36 points required for PR 3 but less than the 216 required for PR5. Its PR becomes 3 from the single link
