Don't worry there may be some Google Update going on and it is much common these days, give it a couple of days.

if you can't find the site for 5 days guess you might be in trouble. see if your site is indexed at all.

well its still indexed, but for mxyzplk as keyword, its still in 77th..
here is some of the history for the SERP...
last week... I still got my blog on first position, and then suddenly it lost of sight...
2-3 days after that, I got my position back...
the next day after that, I lost it again... until today...

I don't understand. Link building using signatures placed on forum related to your niche should be a good thing. I believe the fluctuation which you are seeing right now is very common and happens all the time. Meanwhile just add more content with the desired keyword which you are aiming for and see whether you will regain back the position.

It's plausable those links were devalued or it appears you were being unnatural with your link acquisitions. You shouldn't rely on forum signatures for the bulk of your links.

I believe it is most probably not the fault of forum links.

In answer to your question I don't believe that forum back links would be an issue.

I've noticed the SERP's are tweekin' out the past few weeks. My site keeps shifting from the one spot to 4, 5 and 6 on the first page. It's annoying. Look at it as business as usual on your end and Googles. :)

Web Optimization (http://blogsthatmakemoney.blogspot.com/2008/10/web-optimization.html)

A bunch of my clients on the same day dropped a few hundred spots. They all came back to normal after a week or so. Phew.

My sites done this as well - gone from first page to about 100th, i'm sure its just a short term thing, i'd keep building links as normal and see what happens?

Varying your anchor text is pretty important. If suddenly a bunch of your anchor text is exactly the same, that is not natural.

Forum links will never kill your SERP. Please do remember that SERP depends on how many back links you have. John Chow has more than a million back links to his site.

okay... but have you try to check john chow SERP for his name as keyword?
try it here (http://www.google.com/search?site=&hl=en&q=john+chow&btnG=Search) it doesnt show john chow's blog, few days ago it happens to me too... but after I remove my my signature link... I got first position again... I guess this SERP is still mystery...

I guess this theory is possible, when I change signature, it will change bulk of dofollow link with same anchor link, and I guess google thinks that I buy some link...
