what is fake PR?

I think Fake PR is the PR that appears in the google toolbar, as you know google update the site state in the toolbar once every 2 - 3 months so the toolbar might not reflect the real current PR of the site

Some sites post fake PR to make you think your buying or submitting to a site thats highly ranked with the search engines but in fact it is not.

This is a bad thing as it misrepresents that sites PR rating.

PR is something that is earned from hard work, shame on those sites or folk's that say they have something that they do not have.

A lot of people add those banners to their site, saying this site is pr 4 for example, then when u look in the toolbar the par is totally different, thats the simplest way people fake it, hoping that people dont cross reference it with their toolbar

Fake PR is actually a Pagerank of a site which is fake. They use a redirection method to redirect to other sites high PR and when Google updates they will get the same PR. Manually you can check using search info:websitename and see if their is a result.
Websites like prchecker and common PR only checks PR which includes fake PR. You'll need a Fake PR checker for that. Before this I use checkpagerank.com but they have changed and the best thing would be using a new one - http://checkpagerank.ws which I like as it also gives other important details like Alexa rank,age and many more.

Yes, you have to do first. There are so many fake rank checkers developed now a days. Beware of those sites.
