Submit your site to socialbookmarks, create backlinks, leave comments to blogs

i would advise reading more threads in link dev section of DP

Besides that, also read a lot of SEO Blogs, (i cant think of one off my head) but there are loads of them out there.
You can also read SEO Articles, that helps out a lot.

The basic point of SEO is to collect links to your site

I think you can use some top social bookmarking sites for promotions . Add your links in all your social profiles as well as in signatures . Do blog commenting . Take part in competitions or be a sponsor of any contest .

If its new, better do the pre-seo work before you launch it. First visit of search bots is very important. But if you have already launched it and bots have started to visit you, check your site's content if they are quality and unique content.

Back links won't help you if your site has nothing to serve. Site must have good contents and properly managed. If you are programmer and use ASP or PHP etc u can use some techniques as well.

Do everything within your site. Forget the backlinks for now.

don't bother too much with seo at the beginning if you just launched your website. Instead, try to create a better service and focus on the quality of your website. After a couple of months you can start to worry about seo.

Start with creating a list of keywords that you would like to assign so that people can find on search engines.
After that assign thouse keywords on page titles, meta tags and content. Submit to web directories and do some link exchange. This is a good way to start :)

if you would like to know more I suggest an ebook that will help you even more how to understand SEO.
The ebook can be found at http://www.webtrafficflow.info

hope this helps :)

purchasing links is also recommended, but make sure the links are able to send you traffic this helps a lot more than buying a link on a page that gets no traffic

There are plenty of things you can do, like what the guys have already said, search Google and you will find millions of helpful pages.

For new sites I suggest starting off with forum links, directory submissions, etc. and as you start to expand work up to article marketing, social media, blog commenting, guest blogging, etc.

Hiring a profesional SEO company which can customize packages as per your budget would be the great idea to develop your new website.
Personally, i won't take a chance not being a SEO company but being an online businessman.

I would suggest blog commenting, site submission and bookmarking these are the basics and will help your site to get indexed and gain some backlinks too.

Have you done research on keywords for your site? After you've identified the 'golden' keywords then you start embedding those keywords within your site. But don't over do it though. In your page title and also your meta tag. Then maybe 3-4 times in your content.

Then spread the word about your site by getting backlinks from social websites and blog comments.

The key word here is not too spam and don't over promote yourself. Otherwise you'll get banned.

Good luck =)

Another thing - make your website's content logical. People hate runarounds when visiting websites. Web content is primarily for the site visitors and not crawlers. Write articles that covers specific keywords and arrange them into a logical and compelling manner that would result in repeat visits by search engines and potential customers (if your website is sales/service oriented).
An you can pretty much go from there
