:) Just 'officially' joined the ambatchdotcom seocontest today, so have to play a little catch up...

This forum posting was on page 2 of the google SERP, so if we keep this up, yes, Digital Point may just win the ambatchdotcom seocontest!!!

check us out when you have a minute... bare bones tonight still but we have more coming (I am too busy doing this!):

ambatchdotcom-seocontest.ca

We are curious how a regional domain will compete :) I saw at least on .us in the SERP's on page 2 also, so we will see!

Play or don't, actually don't, then someone else will win the 4k :)

Kelvin Hui is known in Internet Marketing circles... certainly no Armand Morin or Perry Marshall, but he has been around...

Trying to understand their english is a little trying sometimes, but what can you do, it's not their first language...

Also, as I am sure many of you know, it certainly doesn't take a pretty site to either rank well, or convert sheep... so really, that's a silly reason to discount the contest... try doing a little research...

This is fun! I have never been much of a forum guy other than to build links... think I will stick around after this contest is over!

Actually this is a rigged contest none of you can win and the website owner leader of said lame contest knows this.

The term you need to rank to win is

ambatchdotcom seocontest

being as the contest sponsor owns the domain below it will always rank # 1 on Google for the term needed to win the contest.

Shoemoney (Jeremy Shoemaker) tried this samething with his contest and I had to call him on it. Jeremy being an honest and ethical businessman adjusted the contest appropriately.

Okay. I don't know where you get your facts from, but I own this domain and I am in no way affiliated with Kelvin Hui. I'm all the way from Australia. He lives in Malaysia. Get your facts straight before you make accusations and try to defame a good man.

And you say the contest is rigged? What about second prize, or third prize. Are all those websites owned by Kelvin too? Seriously.

I dont think there is any hard and fast rule that .com domains always wins over any other tld.

Sure I have proof

try a keyword term like say sony, time, disney, coke, or if you want to really understand how you wont win try ambatchdotcom seocontest.

Enter it into the google search box and see if the .com does not come up top.

You would need to do such from the google.com engine just in case you're not paying attention....

why if you input increase ctr my site comes up top..

No it's not 100% perfect but then none of us are ....

Hi Peter

I have to disagree with a few things..

contests do not teach people anything....they test skills at best...however most SEO contests are ill conceived because ultimately a true test would involve rankings on the front page of all three search engines month after month for say one year and not for lame ass made up terms and an arbitrary date picked by the contest sponsor.....

next mr hui started his so called contest to generate publicity and nothing less.

why do we need another seo contest? if people haven't learned from the contests so far as you claim... it would seem the context of these being teaching vehicles is not working.

as for mr hui being honest & credible I am sure he is no arguement there.

Peace

Hi, thanks for your comment,

Personally ive been in 3 major SEO comps and was happy with the results for the amount of time and effort I put in.. each one requires less effort as i learn more. though I learn something new every time.. I dont enter them to win.

My point about learning (skills) was mainly directed at the newer ppl entering, working on the internet. these ppl may not win, though im positive they'll leave the competition with a much greater knowledge of how SE's work and rank individual websites and for what reasons. which will only help their online biz

My comments about how/why the comp started by Kelvin was from our personal chats on this topic. i havent read his sales/intro page yet.. though will do.

whats with the characters that will trip up the bot in it ??

I didnt think you could do that in a URL..........different... but useless

being as it is not the smartest manuver you would think the registar would stop them but I guess they are just as greedy as many others.

ohhh this is great...it is mentioned as a prize in the Press Releaser

Featured Columnist of Ambatch Publisher Roundtable.

What the F?????

Good question.

My intention is just for fun only.

Someone will challenge my intention....let them do it.

While I am sure there is a fun side to it, however by making it public, having domains purchased, websites built, and even press releases done we can safely conclude that it is not just for fun,,,,,,,,,in fact 'fun' is probably a very small part of the cog....... no matter how it is sugar coated it is to earn publicity as well.

So if one cannot be honest in the reason for such a contest, then others need to consider the source.

Makes some wonder if the prizes will be paid....

my thoughts only

Most sites will have an intial boost from new IBLs until Google sees they have no value then said sites will fall back.

World SEO Championship?????

LOL

Winning this contest barely makes one an SEO.... and certainly in no way shape or form the world champion.... that is too funny.

go get ranked for "computer" then you could be a great SEO but still not the world champion.....

I really hate how they ripped off the whole carcasherdotcom seocontest thing though, how creative.

Yeah and I hate all of them that are based on lame made up keyword terms...

What kind of fricken contests are these anyway??

I do not see baseball teams playing world championship games on smaller outfields so they can scores 100s of home runs.

Football (USA Version) does not shorten the playing field to make it easier to score goals..

Soccer...the field does not change length in the World Cup!!!

Any sport you can think of does not change radically during a championship, if anything they are made harder

but in the SEO world these contests remind me of special olympics for the supposedly intelligent SEOs....

you may win the contest, but your still with a limitation in your abilities afterwards!!

A real online seo contest would revolve around the term 'online casino' or 'viagra'

The you can claim to be a champion

till then you're just a

chumpion :D

GFX wrote in his blog.1st place will take $4,000, what is a lot of money, all what you have to do is rank first for the keywords ambatchdotcom seocontest,

Well that and hope and pray the money is really going to be paid..

After all any one of us can run up the hill and say we will pay blah blah dollars

but proof is in the actual end result....

till such time...

This might be off topic, but for a contest like this, if the helder doesn't pay, can the contestant sue?

Blogmaster
Aug 2nd 2006, 7:32 am
Yes, I have seen lawsuits regarding fake contests before, not stuff like this, but real life ones.

but the thing is, that when you use a real term, google will be pissed, because you're gonna clutter up real results.

Yes you can sue and in the United States there are agencys to protect against this kind of issue. However it would likely cost you 5 times the amount of the prize to sue if you do not live within general proximity of the sponsor and their laws may not cover such areas.

As for Google getting pissed......they dont seem toooo pissed about their results being full of spam !!! whats one seo contest going to hurt??? and since it would be on a real keyword term, then hopefully sites would be built relevant to the term

In your parlance then Google should be pissed at every lame term seo contest held (which is all at this point) as it sucks up their resources and bandwidth while serving no useful purpose to the general publixc.......No???

No, because if you have a lot of contest members appear on the front pages for real terms, and their pages are about the contest, it will lower the quality of the results.

Not sure how to explain this but one would be ranking for terms liks "computers" "viagra" so the content would be relevant to the keyword term.

As such the keyword term would have no reference to being a part of an seo contest and as such venturing off the theme or topic would probably not work due to the more relevant competing pages.

:)

Black_Hand
Aug 2nd 2006, 11:32 am
I agree totally with blogmaster.

Even if those keywords are relevant, mostly those articles/content is written for the contest!

Moreover it is a fair call! Since the keywords are uncommon or somewhat new everyone has to come up with a NEW page and start from scratch!

Then only you can measure WHO is the BEST :)

You can agree but your methodology is wrong.

In a championship are there typically two new teams nobody has ever heard of ???

NO

You want to compete against something tough and not something of which there is no competition. Why if that were the case nobody woukd play someone better than them in chess or cribbage or whatever contest one would partake in

So black hand..you can take the easy way out....

or try to measure up to real challenges.....

Blogmaster,

hmmm this all could be a dream I suppose,

It has been a long strange trip indeed....

but I think I am more of a realist than you give me credit for

....in that these so called contests, are not contests in reality,

but merely a dream of wanna be SEOs ;)

Blogmaster
Aug 3rd 2006, 2:45 am
I never said they were real challenges. But for some people they are fun, and make them some money while at it. :) If you have a better idea, lemme know ... I'm interested in hearing about it. But anything else than a made-up term would run a risk of Google banning participants by IP, API and such. Is there a made-up term that you can't get without beating the "sandbox"?

I am still waiting for that big ultimate SEO contest to come!
For me it doesn´t make any sense that someone not already done this.

Imagine the publicity and prestige involved if a Major company would announce an SEO contest with very thought through rules and a very large prize pot.

Grand price should be high $25,000 - $100,000 and the preparation time + get the word on the street should be 6 months - 12 months.

Whadda ya say? It would make sense right?
