You can start off by using anchor text that is keyword rich rather then "click here" or "this link" ;) However, that is a better way to link if you fear that you may get labeled as spammer... the more innocent it looks, the more willing admin & mods will allow it to stay.

Link exchanges can work... one method of link exchange that I like is to swap out sig links. Post down in BST and trade your three empty slots for your site. Alternatively, you can get different forums... (If you are a member of other forums, PM me)

You have a humor blog, so you'll want to focus on deep links and general links, as well as other humor sites. Humor also does well with the likes of social networking, however, be VERY careful that you do not get yourself banned. Have friends and family stumble you, not other webmasters!

Great ideas is make a Google widget of your pics, Submit it to Google and other widget sites, offer your widget free to blogger community. This way you will get back links as well as Referral traffic.

I use various wordpress plugins - sociable, tell a friend to build traffic. I also find stumble upon works wonders. As for links I submit articles, I know some people find it a pain in the rear, but it does wonders for link building. Find an article writer here on DP to write you articles pertaining to your blog, costs you about $5 per 500 word article. Submit your article to different article submission sites, or find an article submission service here on DP. Make sure to have your link at the bottom with a specific keyword you are targetting.

Blogs are great for backlinks, I found a new service that I love. See my signature. I don't mean to sound like a salesman, but when you find something that works, you tend to want to brag about it.

You can submit your articles to social bookmarking sites such as Digg and Stumbleupon or use Entrecard to get traffic to your humor site.

You can join humor forums to post links as well...there are tons of em. Ebaumsworld forum will bring you some decent traffic!
