I have been given a flash file that a customer had built for him. He wants the flash file to play in a web page, problem is, it is an .exe file. I can click the file and make it work, but how do I get it to load within the webpage?

I don't think you can... it would be a huge security issue if client machines would blindly execute whatever arbitrary .exe file a website wants them to. You would need to get the Flash file as a "normal" flash file (.swf).

You might be able to import the .exe into flash, then save it as an swf...

Don't quote me on that one though.

Once it's a .exe (Windows Projector) file I don't think you can import it (not in Flash 5 anyway) they're meant for standalone play. Can you not get the client to go back to his designer and have him ask them to export the original .fla to an .swf version? That is assuming he's still in contact and they still have the source file?

There is lies the problem, the reason I am taking over this project is because the first company were a bunch of clowns. He asked him to send him the files and was greeted with "NO".

So his options were to take him to court to get the files or try to find another way to do it. Is there a decompiler or something that can extract the .fla or .swf from the exe?

Not that I know of...

You'd think that it'd be easy enough to make an swf from the exe file, but I guess it's not...

I guess that you could capture it as a video and then make an swf from that, but that really wouldn't look good, and it also wouldn't be interactive.

Try the sparkle flashkeeper from http://www.flashkeeper.com/download.htm

They say that it can convert .exe to swf, and viceversa.
