I enjoy researching and writing on new and different topics. It is very hard to say which one is really my best. However, there are many more subjects I have probably left out. I enjoy research, so the topic is not as important to me as writing articles about what I have learned.

I wouldn't consider myself a travel writer just yet - but I am working on it.
Blogging regularly means I can learn from the professional travel writers, and I love writing about my travel plans, ideas and experiences.

While I write in many fields, you asked for the best, so here is mine.
Casino Related (reviews, how-to, deep understand of issues and so forth)
I have lived in Las Vegas for 26 years. I was a professional handicapper and gambler for years. I was a casino deal and industry person. I was a gambling instructor and also helped people learn how to deal various games. Former systems creator, tester and even helped test games in casinos here.

I tend to write better the more I get paid.
I learned several years ago that specializing in a single topic or even a set of topics isn't a viable way to make a living as a freelance writer, so I learned to write copy ... any copy, and to research quickly any subject.
There are topics I enjoy, but I don't believe I write them better than the topics I don't enjoy.
Working as a Google Researcher for the last 5 years I've learned how to find just about anything on the Internet, or in a library, but I also discovered that writing Internet copy has very little to do with subject matter and a great deal to do with human relations.

Pop culture and entertainment topics in general.
Unlike many people here, however, I hate writing. It's horrible tedious and headache-inducing.
DeniseJ
Jul 17th 2006, 12:13 pm
Heinlein, why write if you detest the work?
marketjunction
Jul 17th 2006, 2:08 pm
My guess is it's the only thing Heinlein99 can do to survive. Most people get stuck doing something they hate, because they have few options. Sometimes the only thing that works for you is what you hate the most.
Who knows.
Writing makes the world go around. :D
DeniseJ
Jul 17th 2006, 3:32 pm
Perhaps you are correct, market. I on the other hand would do everything in my power not to become stuck in a job I despise... I've been there, done that. Of course, I've never been in a situation where I didn't have any other options so who knows?!

Jul 17th 2006, 5:54 pm
I hear you. I stopped doing things I hate when I was a very young adult—always learning and opening doors. Never know when you will get bored of something.
BTW, your blog says, "More importantly, you may want to consider revising and editing after a day or so has gone by, so you can look at the manuscript with fresh eyes."
You should bold that and put it in flashing neon. I just finished a project that was a document for a medical company. Millions are being spent on the document for worldwide distribution. The document was revised dozens of times over the past 12 months. What sounds great one day can sound poor the next. The more important the work, the more one needs to spend extra time massaging it.
DeniseJ
Jul 17th 2006, 8:52 pm
Haha, I agree. I won't pretend I haven't been guilty of lazy editing in the past, but since then I have continously strived to revise, edit and revise again if necessary. It's my job after all to show a client what I can do, and turning in a poorly drafted article doesn't speak well of my talent. Besides which, after working on a tedious piece for several hours, it's a refreshing break to put it aside and return to it the next day.

I like to think I can write for any market, but my particular expertise is:

Small business

Web Design
But I have written excellent articles on Cancer and many other sectors.
heinlein99
Jul 18th 2006, 7:07 am
Denise, I write because (a) I'm good at it and (b) it's what is usually referred to as 'content' for a website. I like having written things, and posting them for others to read, but the actual work itself just kills me. Perhaps I'm trying too hard, but it's just exhausting.
For the first ~25 years of my life I thought I was going to be a writer, and trained for it. But I was never successful, the reason being (I finally figured out) that I hated the actual work and avoided it for as long as possible. I started several novels and never finished them, etc.
I make my living thru medical billing so I don't have to be a writer to survive right now. I'm hoping to make enough from my websites to do that full-time, however... so it's back to the writing game for me. It's just that now I do it in easily-disgestible bites.

For me it would be:
Business
Online and offline marketing
Solo entrepreneur
SEO
Finance
Soap Making
Time Management
But, as long as I have the research material on hand I could write on anything, apart from specialised technical stuff.

Jul 18th 2006, 12:07 pm
I'll write about anything really. I have written about spam, virus' (virii?), web development, books, book reviews, australian politics, car crashes (which are surprising similar to australian politics), technology, molecular physics, taxi drivers, SEO, anything like that.
A good writer is someone who can bend his or her talents to any subject at all. The subjects they write best about are generally the ones they have an interest in. I seem to have been cursed with an avid interest in everything though...
Ste DIY
Jul 19th 2006, 5:08 pm
Music - mostly because it's what I do for a living; freelance music journalism and acting as editor of a network of pretty big music sites is the day job.
I can turn my hand to film/lifestyle/culture quite comfortably. The other stuff I don't really enjoy - it's harder to inject any punch into what you're writing, and I hate anything that sounds stale.

I am very interested in talking with someone who can write about real estate to help fill my new site www.stlmohouse.com with content. I need someone who knows about SEO. What kind of price should I be expected to pay, and what other recomendations can you make so that I can start getting real estate leads from this site. I want to make some money!!!

I love writing and i can write on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Not just random writing but SEO writing.
Although, there are a few topics, which i'm better at:
Travel
Fashion
Education - esp. sociology, philosophy and law
Legal Issues and Practises
Product Reviews (Anything)
Business and Finance
Literature
General
Entertainment - (Celebrities. Movie, Album and Artist reviews)
Health
And those are just off the top of my head. I'm also able and practised in my research skills, which means i can write on basically ANYTHING!! I'm not interested in technical writing, but again if i have the information in front of me, i can give it a go.
And yea, i love creative writing too - so if anyone needs a poem or essay, i'm here!!
I'm also into copy editing. Whether its a college paper, or any other sort of writeup!!
P.S. My rates vary for different jobs. But, for content writing, i charge $1.5/100 words for bulk orders.

A good writer can write on a number of topics including those in which he or she is not fully qualified, but having a research ability by his/her side.
I enjoy writing on any assignment from the easiest to those that are really hard to accomplish because all of them enrich your expertise.
However I like those freestyle topics in which your inspiration can flow in either direction rather than forced keywords.

I can write about almost anything, but cooking, hiking, "true" horror/ghost stories, camping, crime scene/forensic science, and a fair amount of things on dealing with one's computer learned through self-education; And occult/religious studies, things dealing with pet/cats/dogs issues...are my best subjects.
