Ive done this with Gumtree and Craigslist and got backlinks when checked with backlink checker.

Yes, I use craiglist as well. I have a text document with 20 pre-made Craigslist posts, every 15 days or so I go and repost. I get about 100-200 visits a month from that, and for my niche market (Spanish Schools, where the high end is about 2000-3000 visitors), that is a decent increase.

That's good to hear. It seems that Craigslist isn't working as well for IMers as it has in the past.

hotfrog.co.uk is also very usefull classified site. It gives not only traffic but also backlink.
