How to improve your link?

Now, we know some methods to improve your links,such as leave signature at forum,go to others blog,write something about your web, etc.
But i don't know what effect they could have,and which way is the best.Could you give me a suggestion?

You should use multiple methods of linkbuilding I would not recommend

Commenting on blogs can be done for any kind of blog.. it is not necessary to comment on those blogs only.. which are in your niche.. as in directories we can only submit to our website related directories.
